Hi! I'm very new to the chicken world. We have 1 bird, it's 2 months & started to cock-a-doodle-doo this week....so does this absolutely mean it's a rooster?

This bird is, absolutely, a cockerel (young rooster) - not only is it crowing, but that is a whole lot of RED comb and wattle that, at 2 months, is absolutely male.

:( we were hoping she was just gender confused. Oh well! He's our pet & absolutely loves my daughter. He has stayed right at her feet from day 1 (1 week old) & she loves him.

It is not uncommon for the cockerels to be favorites - they tend to be more bold in their curiosity, thus being the "first to come to us" when the owner reaches into the brooder, etc -- what seems endearing, though, *can* turn into a bad thing as the bird matures and comes into his hormonal own, so just do yourself, and most importantly your child, a big favor and be vigilant because when it does go bad it can go VERY bad, VERY fast.
