Crowing Hen?????

It's heard from time to time of a top pecking order hen to take over the rooster job of crowing. I've heard this from others too. In fact I have a Golden Campine pullet who crows every morning; It's a slightly different sound than a rooster makes but she's giving it her best!

Hi and from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. Not sure which bird you are referring to as the roo because none of them really scream roo to me. Besides, the comb and wattles, which I never judge a roo just by that, I don't see any saddle or hackle feathers on them. Maybe it is just me. I would try to get individual side body pic of them.

LOL! My pullet sounds pretty pathetic too, truth be told. But she's doing her best, bless her heart.

Gotta love a girl who takes her job seriously.

I have been used to my main speckled sussex rooster doing the crowing in the morning.. i have a couple of young ones that are just starting to learn to crow... sounds like a pre-teen with his voice changing. This morning they were all crowing together and i heard a new one I didn't recognise. Sure enough, it was a hen, I know she is a hen because I have seen her lay an egg,and she is the dominant hen. I couldn't believe it until I heard it with my own ears and seen her do it. Pretty cool.
