I've learned to very carefully inspect the coop floor before I go in. I have on hen who will occasionally lay on the floor. I gotta assume someone else is hogging her favorite box! And they seem to love to bury those eggs on the floor in the shavings. They don't bury the ones in the nest boxes, just on the floor. I think they are trying to get me to step on it so I do the "OH, no! What the heck? Dang it, I broke an egg!" song and dance routine!

I think mine are bored with this winter and just want me to entertain them by muttering and digging for the remains of the egg. I really think they are laughing at me.

We let our two year old collect the eggs. It's one of his "chores." Needless to say, there are some casualties.

I wish the wooden egg method would work for me. I have a roll out egg nest (love it!) and the wooden eggs roll out the same as the other eggs do. Maybe I could spike one to the floor or something.

I've managed a couple pocket omelets, too. Is there a club for this?
