Have none of you ever heard of the Patriot Guard Riders??
They show up at soldiers funerals to stand in honor with flags and motorcycles to block the view of the family and anyone attending the funeral from these sorry excuses for protoplasm.
I am willing to admit that I am a member despite my current lack of a motorcycle. They accept me anyway, and my husband and children and I have stood in the line at quite a few funerals.
What does the guard do? Nothing.
They stand. They hold their flags, they shield the family. They do not in any way engage the trolls.
Try it. It is a sight to behold, a wonderful beautiful thing that sprang from a response to hatred.
But, Westboro is currently taking their freedom of speech case to the SUpreme Court and as much as I despise what this group says, I am very on the fence over whether they should be curtailed....
(One case involving them - a cop totally lost his marbles one moment and punched one of them square in the face. Clearly this is the wrong thing to do no matter how provoked. So, Westboro sued. The day of the hearing they were trying to find out who was the officer who had thrown the punch. Cops came from three states and "confessed" it had been them. No one could prove who it had been. The judge fined the department - I forget the amount - it was paid in cash by the officers in the room. So, did Westboro win??)
