Crying... everything is dead. UPDATE POST #54

I'm so sorry - it's so traumatic to come home and find such a scene.

Thank you.

The good news is that I found the last three... ALIVE! One guinea, a Silkie and a laying Americauna limped out of the woods as the sun was going down. My layer was bitten but it doesn't look too bad. I cleaned her up and put her in the coop to roost. It was definitely a dog.

I will be going door to door though and finding the dogs that did this. This is too much.

Be careful. In this litigious society we live in today any accusation can cause you grief. Maybe a more bullet proof coop is in order.... Find some strong willing teenage boys and pay them a few bucks to build you one. Good for you, good for them.... and good for the economy!

I am happy that you found the last three alive. Since you remember closing the door tightly, could someone have opened it? I hate to think that, but...

Make sure that if you find the dogs' owners you let them know that they are responsible for the cost of replacement of your birds and repairs. And that any dogs who attack your birds will not be coming home. And any person who helps their dogs get to your birds will be charged with criminal trespass and damages.

I lost two guineas to foxes this summer. That was different. This is very much the same as the other times I lost chickens... to dogs. But maybe it was a raccoon. Who knows for certain.
