I know it is hard, but it is the best thing for the animal, it either Quality, or Quantity, and I honest think quality is the best (I recently had to put down a horse from a mental sickness that she has very little chance of surviving even with the meds, she was 21, but she was the best friend I had, and it was the same choice here, but i chose Quality.)
