Cuckoo Ameraucanas

I recently read that the columbian gene enhances slate legs with barring. This was on both types of white. It might be worth a test mating to see what happens.

Another interesting bit of news. The Ameraucana Breeders Club forum has been discussing the leg color issue.Still some resistance but there is more support for a change than many suspect. Also it was noted that individuals can apply for a new variety not just a club.It still takes 5 breeders raising them for 5 years,50 birds of that variety entered at a qualifying meet.Same fees and paper work required as when a club applies. The breeders must also belong to the APA.I suppose some politics would be involved as always.

it is still possible to get Dark slate legs on a Cuckoo ameraucana, you just need the right genes...

Anyone still working on this? I bought an "Easter Egger," but now that he's grown, his legs aren't green, but gray/black/slate with white soles of his feet and I'd call his feathers cuckoo, not sharp barring. He's got the pea comb and I think beard and muffs, if someone wasn't plucking out everyone's nuff and beards.

Yes I am still breeding these . Consistant slate legs on females but they do fade during the laying cycle . Double barred males are a problem . Dosage effect of 2 barring genes . Single barred have good slate color . I am doing mostly lavender cuckoo . All my cuckoo carry lavender .
