Cuckoo Maran Eggs! COME HATCH WITH ME.....

o.k. today is day 21 and this morning I had 2 babies out and wouldn't you know it,my fan quit working. No problem I thought, I'll just bump the temp up a little and leave them. I had to work today,so when I get home, I have more babies,but the temp shows 108! Quickly I open the incubater. There are several eggs with pips,so I broke them the shell a little to check the chicks and they are alive,so I made sure they all could get air and after turning the temp down,I go away. Come back a little later and the temp is 132! What! Can't be. Has to be the thermometer,although it worked fine up til today.I am frantic. What do I do? I tried to get the fan working. No luck. After turning the incubater off for awhile,it still said 110,but the eggs were coolto the touch. Finally,I took the thermometer out and let it come to room temp. It is registering 5 degrees higher than the central unit, so I put it back in and the temp is 93. I'm easing it up a little at a time. I removed 9 babies and have probably that many more pipped. I hope they make it. I may have to help them and I probably lost the other ones,but I'm not giving up on them.

Day 10 tomorrow and I'm candling my lone GC Maran egg. I so hope it's good, I really want an olive egger.

This hatch may go down in history as a testimony to the resilience of chicks. Despite all of the problems I have had,I have 28 chicks in the brooder and 9 chicks in various stages of pipping. I have gone against every rule! I have no idea what the humidity is,can't trust my thermometer and can't even tell you how many time I've opened the bater or how many chicks I've helped. Out of 48 eggs, I figured 5 were iffy, and probably that many more wouldn't pip for some reason, so I guess getting 37 chicks is pretty good. It has been nerve wracking,to say the least. I do not recommend it.I'm off to check the temp again. Last time I checked,the humidity was down to 89, so my thermometer is acting more normal.

Ohh Thanks. Thats proabably why I have'nt seen any action today..... MY computer is broken and I will not be on as much as usual.

I have a pip in one of my mix eggs. (its day 19) and some of the andys and BCMs are rocking!!!

Well, my hatch I showed the eggs of earlier ended almost 2 weeks ago.

I got 2 cockerels out of 5 Marans, but my Ameraucanas - Not a single cockerel. I actually like that, because I plan to improve the Blue Wheaten lines if anything.
