2 males with 12 females should be ok, especially if they free range. Just watch for over breeding and rehome one of they do.
Just reading your post and wondering if he ended up being a roo? We have a little one that looks very similar (she’s pretty plump though and is about 9ish weeks), I can’t figure out if she’s a roo or a hen! They only free-range a few times a week (I keep them about a mile from my house...ran afoul of zoning ordinances), although much more so in the summer than in winter. They’re sort of spoiled birds and don’t care for snow. But they do have a good-sized coop and run. Plus, my Buff Roo is two years old and slowing down just a bit. I won’t make any decisions until I see how things develop.
Thanks everyone for all your help!
We’re 95% sure Luna is a roo! The tail feathers are coming in as that classic sickle shape. Still no crowing or signs of other roo-like behavior, though! Of course, my friend commented that if she was a new rooster in with my giant buff Orpington roo (he’s ruled the roost for two years), she’d be staying quiet too!Just reading your post and wondering if he ended up being a roo? She (hopefully!) is around 7 weeks old right now. I really don’t know what to make of it! I agree that the comb is alarming, although it’s not too red yet, but her legs are fairly delicate and I always thought that was a good indicator of a rooster. I may just have to wait and see!![]()
