Cuckoo Maran or Barred Rock??

yeah, could be just her way of saying "gotcha" but she's not pecking, it's actual mouth open to the finger. It started happening when I got all the babies, and I am thinking maybe she is trying to protect them from me grabbing them!

Can you get good a close up pic of the legs?
I would say this is a Cuckoo Marans. They come in both clean legged and feathered leg.
I have both kinds and some are heavily feathered and some just have a thin line of feathering.

Your bird's legs look more white than yellow to me
I have had both CM's and BR's. I sold all of my BR's to be sure I never had any cross.

If the legs are yellow: BR
If they are whitish with no yellow: CM
I couldn't see the legs very well in the picture, so, solely based on pattern, I would say CM
Usually the BR has more of a defined pattern with more white at this age.
My CM pullets love to come up and peck and look for things. They are brave little girls.

Not all CM's have feathered legs, there are two types. Feahtered legs "French" non feathered legs "American" . I have both.

Barred rocks have yellow legs, just checked pics and a more even barring pattern. Females are darker.

CM of which I have 5 have a more uneven "barring" pattern and blk legs, Females are darker than males.

This is a CM.

The nipping could also be for attention. When I mess with the hens there are two that will hang out and try to get my attention. The older one will peck at my shoes if I ignore her. The younger just gets as close as she can and stays underfoot until I pick her up.

Pretty bird, no matter what her breed!

If you got your birds from a hatchery anything is possible. My two CMs from Ideal are not pure for sure. My other three are from a breeder, darker eggs , darker feathers.
