Cuckoo Maran rooster or hen rooster want to be?

I'm a new chicken owner (starting small with 1 Gold Sex Link and 1 Cuckoo Maran that hatched Aug 14, 2014). Got my first egg from Goldy Lock on Christmas Day. What a treat.

But Now Cuckoo may be a rooster. She's started to crow at sunrise and a few other times during the day. Her crow doesn't sounds completely like a rooster crow but maybe that's because she/he's practicing? Can anyone tell from this picture? She doesn't show any spurs. She/he is now a good 4 months old.

Your bird looks like a hen about to lay to me but if she is crowing then obviously she is a he. Are you sure it's not singing or announcing?

Your chicken is not a Cuckoo Marans. With that picture it is hard to see hackle and saddle feathers. A side profile shot will help.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. X2 on enola. Your bird is definitely not a Cuckoo Marans or a pullet. It looks like a Blue Marans, and if it is crowing at that age, it is a cockerel. Hens do crow on very rare occasions, but it's almost always a hen over 2 years old that has taken over the role of the rooster in a roosterless flock. P.S. New members sometimes mistake the song of a hen for the crow of a rooster (at least until they hear the rooster's crow for the first time). Hopefully that is the case here.
