This little baby came in my order of Maran eggs. Was the only cuckoo we got... And what the heck?! Lol. First off, he has no toe nails on his outter toes of either foot! Then he has only one wattle coming in (hard to tell in these pics, but just his left side wattle is red.) And his comb is definitely not standard for Marans... Is that a pea comb?!
What is this mutant chicken?!
IDK, but we named his Nubby. 🤣

Looks like an olive-egger mix of some sort. Where did you get these eggs? Someone must have accidentally mixed up the eggs, or maybe a rooster jumped a fence at the place you got them from. Either way, he's definitely not a pure Marans!

The outer toes being nubby like that is pretty common with leg feathering. Most of my Cochins have reduced outer toes either with tiny nails or without nails at all, just like your bird. Nothing to worry about there!

Mutt. The toes aren’t a problem - I’ve had a bird with a similar issue and she was fine.

Good to know! Hatched 9 of 16 eggs, and this was the only one with nubbies. Lol.
We were gifted these eggs. They were almost 2 weeks old, and an acquaintance didn't want them to go to waste, but she couldn't hatch them herself. They were supposed to be all Marans with two Croad Langshans. The Croads were obvious, so I figured the rest must be Marans, but it's possible they are Maran mixes...

Two croads and a bunch of Marans. Lol. I also have a Faverolle and a mystery one with a hair boof.... Thought Polish at first, but not sure anymore... They are from a different clutch of eggs I hatched separately but at the same time. Lol.
