cuckoo marans - are yours flighty/easily scared?

I was wondering does anyone out there who has cuckoo marans find them to be a scary / flighty bird? Mine seem to scare real easily and I'm afraid they'll end up getting hurt or worse end up drownd in the water bowls or duck pool.Just kinda wondering about other cuckoos.

With cuckoo marans, you never know. Honestly, even the chicken breed chart says they are:
"well adaptable to confinement or free range; varies widely by strain: very active; calm or wild, difficult or easy to manage"
If that gives you an idea. It all depends on the strain.

Ours are just as calm and layed back as they can be. The last time we moved them from one pen to the other I was able to carry about 6 at a time in my arms. They just went along for the ride.

We have two hens and a rooster and they are pretty calm and friendly. Especially the rooster. He likes to sit on my leg when I crouch down.

I got some from a breeder last year that were calm and sweet and lovely. His weren't available this year, so I tried someone else, and they are the flightiest chickens I have ever had. They are terrified of everything. They are beautiful, mind you, but scaredy! The eggs they came from were very dark. Frankly, I'd rather have calm chickens and drop back to a five or even a four on the color scale...

I think it always pays to find out not only if the breed you're getting will suit you, but also if the strain will work for your needs. If you're buying from a hatchery, even, it can help to talk to people who have purchased THAT breed from THAT hatchery before.

I only have one that I hatched & she is so sweet and friendly. She really is one of my very favorites.

We have 16 cuckoo marrans and I have tried everything. Some will eat out of my hand but when you reach out to pet them they take off. The hens are the worse, they won't let you near them. They haven't laid eggs yet so hopefully when they do that will make it all worth it. If you find a trick that works let me know.
