Cuckoo Marans

I culled all but one of the boys for meat at 16 weeks. I have to say I couldnt taste a difference in the meat like I was hoping for. I have a single rooster remaining and he is noisy enough, but not aggressive to me.

I have 1 BO in northern Illinois, she does ok in the heat and is a doll. My cuckoo Marans is a Mama’s girl, sweet, shy, close to laying. Frostbite risks mean I would lean Marans. I have no Roos.

I have a cuckoo maran and she lays my favorite eggs out of anyone! Not sure if it’s just her but she constantly lays different shades with different amounts of speckles! I’ve heard they are not very broody but she has been broody for 3 months and it took her getting sick to successfully break her. I put in an old picture from before she went super broody and lost much of her beautiful color and she’s molting right now.
