I'm about to hatch out my first eggs with my daughters class mates. I have one Cuckoo Marans, a Silkie and a BR Bantam rooster, I have not seen the "little" boys have any luck with the girls (all standard save one) can my CM "Pinkie" (the dominant rooster) take care of 13 hens? I don't find him to be especially frisky javascript:insert_text('

I just don't want to disappoint a bunch of kids and not have a chick to show for our efforts.

It's possible, especially since he only need to do the deed once with each hen every 2 to 3 weeks for the eggs to be fertile.

Hmmm...that's odd. My friend down the road has 11 hens and I gave him my Partridge Rock roo that is 9 or 10 months old. He asked if I would test hatch some of the eggs for him and out of 9 eggs all but one are developing in the incubator right now. I cracked the 1 that didn't have development, but the yoke scrambled when i opened it (probably from being in the incubator for 7 days) so I couldn't tell if it had been fertile or not...

You must have a virile roo!! Maybe I should do a test hatch when I get my incubator before I involve the hearts and minds of young and impressionable children...

You could just put some in and candle on day 4 or 5. You should see veining by then.
