I did not do the first cross so I don't know for sure, if anyone does know please let us know. I am guessing they were crossed to barred cochins or barred/cuckoo polish bantams.

Thank you usschicago1, I am very pleased with my first crop and hopefully they will only get better

Another great source for good cuckoos is Calesta Rieth in NE WA, she has great cuckoos. I purchased a couple as chicks, and I will see if I can post some updated pictures (I posted pics way back in winter 2009 when they were still very young). The pullet is just one of those WOW birds, but has a mostly white crest. HUGE crest though, good barring, mostly black skin, mulberry comb, decent cushion, small, typey, good layer. Male has an amazing cushion, good barring, nice foot feather, decent type but has pink skin and a horrid red comb.

Those looking for additional cuckoo genetics would do well to contact her,.. best to get young adults. She's a fantastic lady too, donated a bunch of chicks and an ASBC membership to the local 4-h club.

[email protected] She has quality stock and her prices are fair (considering the quality of her stock-- she has purchased birds from Mihalik and Hattrick as well as others to improve her birds). I didn't get pictures tonight as I was too tired to set up for photos. She also has excellent whites, blacks (I have a black cock on loan from her, he was BOV at the Stevenson, WA show in the spring), blues, buffs, splashes.

I purchased a cuckoo silkie at chicken stock earlier this summer and he/she has blue feet and legs, skin color is lighter then the feet but still not flesh colored. The comb is not red will this get redder with age or could he/she have the right color. I have no idea how old. I'm going to go out and get some pics right now and hopefully be able to post. She is headed to the county fair this weekend and I was hoping to sell her/him because all I have is a splash rooster and black hen.

Usually the skin and combs on cuckoo silkies get lighter with age, especially if it is a roo...my cuckoo chicks hatch with very nice blue slate legs and feet but as they age the skin lightens.

Mine came from a barred rock, but I have only hatched a handful, and sold them as pets; I still have two, but am not really working on them. With silkie feathering, I doubt you can tell the difference between cuckoo (fast feathering) and barring (slow feathering).

I goggled cuckoo silkies and got a lot of info on them, the rooster is the one that will give you all barred chicks not so with a barred hen.goggle cuckoo genetics and breeding.

A cuckoo male will only give you all barred chicks if he carries two copies of the barring gene. Which will make dark skin and comb even more difficult. A cuckoo female will give all barred sons.
