Ya gotta just love fellow BYCers !

I had to take my incubator home for break. Drove with the heater on full blast and the eggs covered with a towel. Of course that was day 4, they will go back to school the same way on day 14. All that I can candle are alive, even the one that cracked a little. Sealed that one with wax. Even a hen leaves the eggs for a little while to feed and poop.

It is at least worth trying.

Thank you Gwyllion and skya328. I will PM y'all if we need it and let you know. I am still trying to get in touch with the parents to see if they can take it.

It's just, just starting to zip right now.

Good news, the parents of student who gave me the eggs agreed to take them.

However, right as we were dismissing, the little pipped egg decided it was time to start hatching in ernst.

The mom waited around for about 45 min, hoping it would finish zipping, but it hasn't made much progress.

She taking her kiddos to lunch right now for about an hour or so, and then coming back. We are bothing hoping the little guy is out by then.

However, in the case it is not out- I need advice on how to transport the eggs in the bator to her house. I know I should set the one that isn't hatching in a egg carton, and cover the bator with blankets. Should I go ahead and set the hatching one in carton too? Do I need to do anything to proctect the hatching one against shrink wrap? She lives about 15 min away from school, so we are hoping for the best.

I need some advice on the ASAP, before the next hour.

I swear this chickie needs to be named slow-poke.

I would make a nest out of papertowles or something of the sort for the one hatching. Just make sure they are moist when you put it in there so it can soak up that moisture and not shrink wrap. Make it fast and get that humidity back up in the bator before moving. Maybe add a bunch of wet papertowels in there to keep it up for the move.

Good luck

Thank you to all who helped with this thread!

The good news is thanks to some patience on the mom who was taking the incubator home's part, the little chick manged to make it and hatch out!

It and the other egg that might hatch are on their way home with the mom (and owner of the eggs) right now. The only thing I had to wrap the bator with is baby doll blankets, so I used all the ones I have and sent it with her. Some of the them are felt ones, so hopefully it'll help hold the heat in. We sent it home with pretty much right after it hatched, so hopefully it doesn't get to cold on the car ride home.

Hopefully the little chick and the other egg make it alright. Given the other possible alternatives, this is much, much better outcome!!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped out with different ideas to help these little chickies make it. BYCers are the best!

(And I didn't get any pics of the little guy/gal before I had to send them on their way, or else I would post some).
