Culling a chicken (sorry if graphic)

has anyone killed a bird with an air gun, and if so is it advisable

I'd think it would have to be a head shot, a single pellet to the body wouldn't take a bird down, just wound it and that's no bueno. My honey used a shotgun once on a rooster that attacked our son when he was a little, we didn't even try to eat that bird cause of all the shot throughout the body.
 
If youre simply culling to get rid of cockerels and aren't processing for meat...my preferred method is ether/ starting fluid in a bag with a rag at the bottom. No mess, no blood, no flopping around. They go to sleep within a few seconds and that's it. Tie the bag up when your done just to be safe. I don't like seeing the flopping.
