Culling a long time rooster. Is there a better time of day?

mine would stalk us to attack. So I went outside and stayed off to the side knowing he would follow me waiting for me to turn my back to him. When there were no henS around and he stayed to watch me, I took that opportunity to put him down. we raised ours from days old and he was gentle and loving, and my favorite. After he was over a year old he turned mean, aggressive and would attack us and the hens. it Really sucks but sometimes it has to be done. Please do not rehome a bad rooster. That only passes along the problem.

This may be too late, but I found the most humane way would be to take him off the roost at night, wrap him in a towel, take him around the corner, and shoot him the head with a hand held pellet or BB gun. . Lights out instantly, no stress.

WOW.... Chickens are livestock, hence food. If you can not handle the thought of culling a mean bird why are you then consuming the eggs? After all, you are still culling a bird eating an egg.

Yes, some people here butcher and eat chickens. And some people here want nothing to do with that. And both can be polite about it.

We have a rooster that is in charge of 18 pullets and hens. He has worn out his welcome. My legs are scarred beyond belief. I have been trying everything under the sun for the last 3 months with no success. I have lumps where he has spurred me that are over a month old.
My question is is there a better time of day to cull him? I was thinking at bedtime so it doesn’t disrupt the ladies too much but I didn’t know.

Fish net anytime hens will recover quickly, quit thinking of him as a pet. Disposal a personal choice. No choice very pleasant. 18 months, WOW!

Purchased a straight run of 12 Silver Lace. Unfortunately 10 turned out to be Roosters, of which I already had two adult Americana Roosters. I have 3 separate runs and coops, and put the 10 Silver Lace in a run by themselves as they matured. After a few more months I had given away a few and still had about 5 left, of which they were fighting too much among themselves. I left one of them in a run and gave him a small flock various hens to watch over and let the other 4 roost in the trees that over hang the runs. Each every few days I noticed another Roo was missing and found a trail of feathers and a Roo carcass. A local feral Tom Cat was catching them while they roosted. I then set snares to catch the offender and found him dead the next day in a snare. And I live trapped the last Roo whom was now going feral and dispatched him as well. So now I was down to 3 Roos in three seperate runs with equal amount of hens.

Over the past yr, I noticed the Silver Lace would stalk me as rotated the different runs loose to free range on separate days. A few weeks back after letting out the Silver Lace and his small flock I felt him hit my back. As I turned around he was mid air coming at me again! I caught him mid air and in flurry of flapping wings and getting spurred in both arms he got his neck rung and thrown down into a dry wash to feed the local feral cats and or bob cats..... In my opinion, don't dally on dispatching an offender just get the deed done and over with.....

Thank you for your posts I am still in the investigative state but you definitely helped me make the decision to never get a rooster.

Not every rooster is this bad, just fyi. I have 7, maybe 8 if I keep a certain chick, roosters and they are all super friendly. You just have to find one that isn't aggressive with you or the hens. Some male's are more aggressive and some breeds are more prone to aggression

That was being polite....... Live Stock are not pets. Dogs, cats are pets. Dogs are also a working animal like a Horse, Donkey... Now cats are either a problem or a pet....

That isn't true for unfertikilized eggs, and it still really isn't true for fertilized eggs. When they're a day old egg, there's barelyeven a clump of cells, much less a real bird, not to mention said clump of cells has never had a chance to experience life, so it won't recognize anything when you crack an egg open.

A neighbor, whom actually lives on our land since he was given "temporary " shelter permission by my hubby's elderly widowed mom , thinks he owns the place and let's his pitbulls kill our animals and other neighbors animals. He thinks we, US and my hubby's elderly mom, need to move off "his " property he now thinks is all his... His dogs killed 3 batches of chicks and he tried to beat my elderly dog to death with a shovel be a use my dog was holding the pits off the birds. I'm female and nearly 60 and I went crazy when I saw another batch we just got eggs from, get butchered so cruelly.

1- Are you okay? Geez, your "neighbor" sounds like a worse nightmare than the roo!
2- Is the neighhbor still terrorizing you? I hope like hell he's gone, but if not, I'd say this situation calls for a lawyer and the police.
3- With someone like that on your land, I'm worried about you
