Culling methods

I use carotid/jugular slit in a cone for bleed out when slaughtering for meat.
Cervical Dislocation when euthanizing from disease.

The CD is tricky.... this video shows how it's done without removing head, I found it very helpful and 'easy' to do....it takes some finesse.
Cervical Dislocation is shown in this video at about 1:00,
it's the only CD video I've found that doesn't remove the head.

-Notice the slight divot in the ground under the stick and neck, this will keep the bird from being choked.

-Notice that she slowly stretches out the neck and legs before giving the short sharp jerk that breaks the neck close to the skull, this is key to success IMO.

I've found this technique to be very effective.
I was just looking for this video the other d

It's tomorrow...look for link @BantyChooks :D
Thanks for the reminder! The one I liked has been taken down, but I found two others, one of which is a broomsticking video.
They don't show appropriate grip for manual CD, but that's easy enough to find by looking it up. I prefer to cradle the bird in my arm, though, instead of securing the feet, because that gives my arm more pulling power.
The title on the first is misleading. It's cervical dislocation and a good job of it, too.

I hang them upside by their legs with rope with a slip knot on one end from a tree branch and then while they are hanging upside down shoot them in the head with a 22 long rifle.

Those are pretty good, so I saved the links.
I still prefer the broomstick vid I posted as it shows it more slowly, which was clearer to me.

Definitely agree. The person in your video seemed more experienced too.

Can I ask: does the bird bleed out at all? Any flapping of the wings afterwards to promote some pumping out of the blood?

I started with slitting the arteries, and it works fine. But I became uncomfortable with it after reading more about cervical dislocation, and started using the broomstick method. I much prefer that.

I find they bleed out just fine after CD, too. What I do is have my garbage can ready, pick up the bird, pull the head just hard enough for it to dislocate, and then take my right hand (while holding both legs in the left) and grab both wings at the joint, and pull the head the rest of the way off. Then I swing over and hold it over/in the garbage can to flap and bleed. They bleed quite a bit that way.
