Good morning everyone and thank you for the coffee Debby!

It's a sleepy rainy day here this morning. Hopefully it doesn't rain as heavily as last time. Our water table was so high I couldn't do laundry or take more than a 10 minute shower and the ground squished when I walked out to the chickens, lol, I like rain, but not that much rain. The chickens didn't seem to mind, they just hunted for crawdads in the yard, haha.

I just hatched most of these out on the 19th. I have a mix of naked necks, barnyard mix and Silkies. And then my Hubby brought me home 9 lavender Orpingtons. I had been wanting some forever. SO excited to see these babies grow out. I also have a broody silkie laying on eggs probably due to hatch this weekend.

They're super cute! Congrats on the great hatch!

Cute chicks, Chickie! My broodie sat on 5 eggs, but only ended up with one chick. That sounds sad, but she is happy as she can be with her little sidekick.

did you candle or anything while she was sitting. My girl has been sitting for just over 2 weeks and I haven't bothered her at all. She has a pen all to herself so she doesn't get trampled and the chicks (if any) will be safe. But I've just been letting her do her thing. Is that how you did it?

Hi everyone! I just found this thread. I’ve been reading most of it all day and wanted to join in if that’s ok! I love my chickie babies and I’m addicted to hatching. I have a medium size flock and can just sit out and watch them all day. Can’t wait to get to know everyone!

Yay!! Don't you love it when they get it? I'm so happy things are going well for you and your flock.

I am in transition right now with the birds. I had to put down my roo last week for health issues. The temps here have been over 100 and the broody ate her eggs. I'm not devastated, I'm pretty sure the heat killed them. I moved the 8 chicks into the big coop a couple days ago and after the first night they went to the big house on their own! Thursday I'm going to pick up a new roo and a pullet. I've decided not to keep a roo from the chicks because I don't know if Jr's health issues could be passed down. Plus, the new roo isn't white so any babies we hatch will be colorful.

Sheesh, sorry for the novel, lots going on lol.

Yeah, he was a good roo for the girls and I miss his silly self. It's far above normal temps though and I didn't want him to suffer in the heat. Thank you!

Lol, thanks everybody! Here's a little bit about my small flock if you're interested! I currently have three silver wyandottes and a Rhode Island Red Rooster. My roo, named Rockefeller (Rocky), is a gentle old fart, and just recently had his spurs removed. They were impeding his ability to walk. Midnight is the oldest hen and considers herself the boss hen of the coop. She's bold and is always the first one out of the coop, and the first one to get the snacks. Galaxy always sticks close to Midnight and is much more tentative, although she enjoys searching for bugs outside. Sweety was a rescue and although she is very shy, she loves sunning herself and foraging outdoors. She's often the last hen inside the coop.
