Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Hey good morning co brooding talk to my silkie anytime one is others say okay we can too ...
give them 8 or 10 big eggs three join in
But these are a buff orp and an australorp. Not common for them I don't think. Oh well, if I get chicks I don't have to raise out of it, I'm happy. 😁

I didn't think it was common for Australorps to go broody either, that's why I had a few of them in my first flock. Apparently, one of those girls didn't know that...worst. broody. ever.

I tried everything with her, nothing worked. Darned girl just wouldn't quit!

Well, I hope Gertie doesn't quit. I want chicks. Shirl was a great broody and mom a couple years ago. I don't have her anymore, but Surly, Lucy 2's mom, is one of her offspring. I just love having a flock that renews itself. I will at some point just have to be careful about the roosters and inbreeding, but I think I'm good for now. Pippi and Mad are both new to the flock.

ETA: Shirl was an australorp. Forgot to mention the point.

I think the coop will be mite free by tonight. You just need to clean and spray it and then give it a little time to air out. Do you have a good farm store that can give you some advice?

After a few different recommendations I ordered Elector PSP. It won't be here until Thursday or Friday but Meg said she has some i can use so hopefully I can get rid of them tonight. Its safe to use on chickens but I asked another gal on BYC who has used it before to see if i can use it on the chicks. Im a little worried with them being so young.

Be sure to spray any little cracks, crevices and corners where they can hide. They also hide on the bottom side of roost bars, etc. Sneaky little critters I understand.

Thanks, Val!! I threw away all the pieces of wood and 2x4s I had in there :lau I'll just go by some fresh stuff as I need to build poop boards anyway! I cleaned feeders and waterers so all I need to do now is spray coop and chickens.

Are you sure you have to treat the chicks? You said you didn't see any on them.

She actually just answered and said to wait to treat the chicks. Its safe to use on them but the concern is getting them wet. That makes me feel better I don't have to treat them!
