Cup o' Joe and Tea Too

Good morning! Thanks for the coffee!

I have a good recipe for that kind of Italian roast. Here it is.

Liptons Onion Soup Mix has dehydrated onions, but I prefer to caramelize a couple onions and put that in instead. (I generally don't have Liptons Onion Soup on hand, and just make it myself sans the dehydrated onions.) I use a lot more garlic than the original recipe, and I don't worry about the Kitchen Bouquet if I don't have it, although I usually do.

If you like Italian beef, I hope you'll try this recipe. It is delisherous, as you say.

I use a London Broil for the two of us, or a Cross Rib for a small gathering, and then cook it a lot faster. I use a thermometer and take it out at 125 degrees, slice and return to the broth. The tougher cuts, like rump roast, would take the 3-4 hours, but I don't like those cuts and never buy them. :D

As you can see, I love sharing this recipe. It is so easy and always a hit!

That's more along the lines of the Italian roast I was thinking of yesterday :D

Thanks for the recipe Val!

That would be a nice recipe but always have onions soup dry mix here
Costco has a great price on it in 4
I don't buy many packaged, canned or prepared foods, so I'm always looking for a copycat recipe. But, by all means, use Liptons if you like it. :D

Here's the funny thing. I've thought for a long time that packaged type foods are the reason we have so much cancer in our world. Well, as someone who avoids them 99% of the time, I'm the one with cancer. So much for my theory. But still, it's my habit, so I'll probably continue to eat whole foods and put my own seasonings together.

I never have that on hand, but now I can make my own with the info on Val's recipe!
And you can make the onion soup dip with it! Just add the dehydrated onions back in to the recipe. It's a great recipe to have. Works for a lot of dishes.

ETA: I think it's 3/4 cup of the dehydrated onions, or onion flakes, whatever you can find in the spice aisle, to make it the original LOSM.

I prefer to make up my own stuff too Val. Mostly so I know exactly what's in them and because I think when I make it, it's fresher. Plus DH has an MSG sensitivity and a lot of the prepared stuff has that in them.

It's healthier, and really it's not hard. I sometimes make this in a larger quantity and just have it on hand. I do that with Emeril's Rustic Rub too. You can't believe how many things that is good for.
