Thanks everyone and thank you Mike! But I think it might be a bit of a drive to meet you since I live in Central Texas but thanks so much. I really did not mean to seam overly sensitive and hope I didn't put anyone off by my comment and want to thank you all for you responses and sympathy. But I have a problem! It didn't work!! we tried 2 different containers and one I know was air tight. I left it nearly 30 minutes and then I heard her still peeping and moving around...then I started to think if I left her to long she may suffocate which might be painful so I opened it ans she was just standing there like no big deal. I don't know what I did wrong! She is not in good shape to begin with she can't even get on her perch and keep her balance she just sits there half a asleep most of the time struggling to breath.
Oh the litter I have been using is aspen or pine (whichever I can find at the time) it has a low odor. It was so hard to even try to do it and even harder when it wasn't working. I am thinking about calling my vet and maybe he can make a suggestion. I really liked the idea of her just going to sleep. The website said it won't work on animals over 2 lbs but she is nowhere near that. I used a dish instead of a tube since I didn't have a tube like the BYC member. At this point I think her health is still declining so I need to do something I really don't want her to suffer but I just can't do anything bloody or know anyone near me that will. I am afraid to keep trying the "gas Chamber" if it's not going to work. Any suggestions??

So they can drown it to death? Not only repulsively cruel to the chick but traumatizing to the kids as well.

Yeah, and also it will teach the kids that chickens cant swim...Seriously it was meant as a joke...sadly enough culling is just a part of raising chickens

That's a relief. Sorry, it's hard to discern between humor and sobriety on a computer screen...

I can't imagine working up to being able to do this and then not having it work! I am so sorry. If it were me, I would definitely call the vet at this point.

I admire your courage in this. It's so rough.

I'd call the vet for advise. But if you do it again, use A LOT more. I imagine it varies on the size of the bucket she's in. I'm sorry you finally got the nerve to do it and it didn't work.
