Cured the mites now sick and not getting better

Awe. I hope you’re wrong too. I have 3 other RIR that her sisters and they are all strong and healthy no issues. I’m using the powder permethrin but plan on getting the spray to treat the coop. I read that food grade DE mixed in with food is a good de wormer rather than going the chemical route. Is that true? It actually says to put 2 cups of DE in 5 pounds of feed every month to keep worms away instead of waiting until they get them then testing for what kind and treating with specific chemicals based on that. I feel so bad. Maybe I should have been taking preventative measures. I just never did before and never had any issues. So why add anything to water or food ya know?

De works ok to keep the coop dry and prevent flies and stuff like that but not for worming and treating birds. That’s why I asked the age of your hens. Sadly it probably is just the end for her. From everything you’ve said it seems you are doing everything just fine. Some birds just won’t live that long. I agree and don’t treat birds for anything but mites and lice. Good luck

The DE just isn't what folks have been told it is.
It is added to feed to prevent caking in the feed. Nothing more.

It is sad that it went flaming viral as a cure all.

I am also of the mind to treat mites and lice and not much else.
Supportive care while one is recovering from injury/illness? Yeah I would do that.
They have to be recovering though.

A little over a week ago one of our RIR got mites.
We separated her because she was super weak and getting picked on
One day she seems to get better the next she seems worse then back to better and so on and so forth.
Today I found her moved from where I fed her this morning but with her legs sticking out to the side
She moves but can’t stand. (Hasn’t in over a week really. Just barley.
She isn’t egg bound and nothing is stuck in her crop.... those are the only things I knew to check for....
She is 5.
Any updates on your hen?

One thing I did not see you mention was when she last laid an egg?
With her age and some of the symptoms you describe, she may have a reproductive disorder. They can have good days and bad. Even though you check for egg binding, did you happen to feel her abdomen - is there any swelling or what might feel like fluid?
