I have a trio of standard sized blue cochins. I also have a light brahma rooster. What would the resulting chicks look like if the brahma bred with the cochins?

what would the chicks look like if the brahma bred with the barred rocks and buff orpingtons?

I also have barred rocks, which are yet young. Do barred rocks have any differences as day old chicks enabling one to determine gender?

As far as breeding the birds, I haven't a clue what you will get.

But I can answer the Barred Rock question. As chicks, males tend to have larger dots on their heads while the females have small compact dots. As they feather in more, the males will have lighter barring than the females.

If the Brahma bred with a Barred Rock hen, you'd have sexlinked traits....males would get barring from mom and probably all would have foot feathering and pea combs or modified pea combs. Females will probably be mostly solid colored.

It's not exact- but I crossed a (banty) cochin with a jap hen. All of the chicks have feathered legs- but the females have big "boots" and the roos have more brahma-like legs. Guess it's a weird kind of sex-link.

Good, thank you for some great answers. My light brahma rooster had been breeding with a RIR that was blind in one eye. Our barred rock rooster never would have anything to do with her. The brahma rooster has always liked her alot. I incubated some eggs, they are now one month old. These eggs in the incubator were araucana, polish, golden laced wyandotte and black Jersey giants. I also had put in three of my own brown eggs to fill up the tray. In that hatch there was a possibility of 3 cross-breed eggs. Of the resulting three cross breeds, two look barred rock and one looks similar to the brahma. Obviously females. The one that looks Brahma-similar has totally feathered legs, very pretty, she is quite white with lots of black speckles, a very interesting looking bird. I had forgotten that I had put in three of our crossbred eggs, and was rather shocked when I saw the brahma feathering and barred rock barring. Interesting, can't wait until I have years under my belt with chicken breeding, and truly understand genetics more deeply, smiling.

That doesn't actually make very much sense, as we don't have any orpingtons that are old enough to breed, I have three of that breed, but they are only 3 months old now. The incubation began close to two months ago. The brahma has only bred with the RIR, as that is the only available breed to mate with. The barred rock rooster we had also made sure that the brahma could only have access to the half blind RIR, not any of the other reds, smiling. We don't have that barred rock rooster anymore.
