Curious about shoulder perching.

I don't know if parrot behavior carries over to chicken behavior, but the dominant bird perches the highest.

Owners of parrots -- even small ones like budgies -- avoid letting their birds sit with the birds' eyes higher than the human's eyes.

That's true with chickens too. The highest roosts are the most desirable usually.
Right now my ten week old cockerels are starting to crow, and they prefer to get up on a log or something to make themselves larger...

I have a mixed flock of birds and recently one of my Dominiques started occasionally flying up to perch on my shoulder.

No warning, just suddenly she is there.

It doesn’t bother me, as she is balanced and will hop off if I nudge her.

I don’t want to start something that will begin to be a habit of the entire flock.

Unless we are training for a reboot of Alfred Hitchcock’s Birds.

My little Blacktail hybrid started out doing this when she first realised she could fly. After I clipped her wing (she had had a little adventure into the neighbours’ garden who have Jack Russell terriers so she’s lucky she didn’t get munched) so yeah after I clipped her she forgot that very quickly BUT she obviously wanted the human attention as she always jumps up on my lap for a cuddle. She has had a couple of moults since then but still hasn’t realised she can fly again.....but I like the knee jumps lol! This is her with me, and keeping my husband company
