Curious about shoulder perching.

Here is my Dominique when she was fairly young. Always perching on things:

Eye injuries and this ^^^ I wasn't bothered by the poop as much as the pain that I felt in my eye. Oh my, it really hurt and just thinking about when it happened, makes my stomach sink! I'm surprised that I didn't have smoke pouring out of my ears that day. Between the pain and the thoughts that rushed through my brain was a lot. It may not seem like it, but so much ran through my mind when it happened
I’m so sorry this happened to you.

She has once pecked my earring and I checked her.

My Dominique also enjoyed perching on arms, shoulders, etc. when she was young! Now she is too big for that, but she makes an excellent fluffy lap chicken when she wants to be one.
Now that my Barred Rock has aged a bit more, she's more apt to fly up on my shoulder now, when I am knealed down or bent over. I'm not tall, at 5ft even. So I'm still having to work at breaking this habit of hers, while being kind and treating her gently

Yes, I’m 5’3”. Maybe she is just showing off.

She is in the younger group of the flock.

I want everyone to respect my space! Having big birds jump up unexpectedly will get old fast out there. And cockerels can get the entirely wrong idea about where you fit in their social order.

Thank you!

I welcome all discussion, but truly understand better when explained to me the thought process behind the personal decisions and experience.

I always love the knowledge and experience shared by Mary @Folly's place The couple of times I thought thing's would be different for me than what she shared, I learned the hard way eventually. I still appreciated that her words were in the back of my head and it's helped me figure things out. The things she shares regarding cockerels/roosters have been priceless (everything she shares is but I LOVE her information about cockerels/roosters, the best)

That's so nice of you, thank you for the vote of confidence! I do come over as this cranky old lady, for which i apologize (usually).
Thanks again,
Mary

Not at all.

I am loving this new part of my life, but I am truly new, inexperienced, willing to learn, and have become quite attached to my birds.

I appreciate honesty and straight talk.

I want to provide the best I can for these girls and boy.

Knowledge is power.

Mary,

I like the way you think! Anything that has a propensity for having a Bowel Movement on me, or Pecking my eye or face automatically does not have the honor of sitting on me near my face.

Other than that, pick up the chickens, pet them, but no shoulder shitting or eye pecking!

But excellent thread!
