Do you mean that you have been literally slapped? I hope not!! Cause I would be in jail or the hospital if somebody slapped me!!!
But Yes I do try to watch what I say on here. More to keep the peace rather than protect myself. One down side to text is you don't know the tone of which the person who wrote/typed it was using. Sometimes that's what upsets folks I think.
not posted to a thread or answered a thread in a PM because you felt your opinion would not be respected, or that it would open you up to criticism or hostility from other forum members?
Quite often, but sometimes I think it is useful to add the other viewpoint. Even if it does end up getting rather pathetic ad-homeniens aimed in my direction.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm generally a thread killer too.
I think with nearly 50,000 people on the forum, there is a great diversity of opinion. Sometimes, reading or following a thread it feels like everyone thinks the same. I think it might be more likely that those whose opinions are very different from the OP don't bother to post. This might be how you get 12 pages of total agreement.
I started having thread conversations via PM after getting bashed on a thread I started. I'm one of the minority here, and have actually had good conversations with people on "the other side of the fence" through PMs.
I still post my opinions but end up sugarcoating to the point where
it would have been better to just skip it.
Mostly I just keep in mind that there are young people on this site.
There are other forums where you can say just what you want to, so I go there
when I need to let it out.
This site has lots of kind people who jump in with good advice when I yell for help,
so why risk losing that?
