When hatching eggs, or buying straight run chicks, I now plan for 2/3 to 3/4 to be males (unless I want males, in which case I expect mostly females).I am starting to believe that out of 12 hatched eggs we are going to only end up with 2-3 hens. We knew it was a possibility and have a plan, but it's still a bit disappointing.

Holy schnikies!! And to think we were planning for 50/50. We were also thinking not all eggs would hatch and some chicks wouldn't survive from our research, especially with mama hen being so young. But all 12 eggs hatched and are growing healthy chicks. We felt so bad for Orpy having to keep track of, and warm during a couple freezing nights, all 12 chicks!
