The 'too much sunshine' sunshine state
My muscovy duck has three babies, and by now they're 2 weeks old, probably closer to 3. One of them is twice the size of the other two, I mean, it's very visible difference. I know at this age, you can't say for certain what gender your duck is until they get older and start developing traits that we know as drake or hen. I get that sometimes, you think one is male or female, but then they surprise you. But with this little guy SO big, I wasn't sure if it was possible to be sure if it will definitely be a drake, or if there's still a high chance it's just a fast-growing hen.

What are people's thoughts and experiences? I'm still fairly new to ducks, this starting my third year with them, and I'm very curious about this topic seeing I'm experiencing it. Thanks to anyone who replies!

Sorry if it's hard to tell from my pictures.

Updated pictures! They're getting in some beautiful plumage. They hardly look like babies anymore!!

I haven't been socializing them quite as much as other clutches, but my dark/pied one is fairly bold and friendly around me. I took some treats out there yesterday, and surprisingly my more skittish big guy here warmed up immediately to me and was sitting in my hands, nibbling my fingers, and enjoying being pet. :D It goes to show food is the path to their hearts....

This one was from a few days ago:

And this is from today:

I'm in love with his markings so far...his feet and beak are nearly pure pink/tan, except for a couple of freckles. :love And his sibling is getting in a pretty pied pattern, but my pictures didn't turn out clear, so here's just a side one of him/her with mama Aspen:

New pictures! I tried to figure out about how old they are now, since I don't keep track...I believe they are around 6 weeks old?

And a peek at the other duckling's pretty markings.

Aspen, their mama who is one of my starter ducks, was bobbing her head at me and I got this goofy picture of her that made me giggle.

Thank you all for the comments...Sorry I haven't gotten back to this thread, I've just let myself get distracted.

Mr. big duckling is doing great, and so is his family. Mama Aspen is leaving them much more frequently now and they're growing very independent. Almost no more deafening peeping! ;) :gig

Through treats and food, they have also become very friendly and they've gone from 'more ducks' to 'my babies' now. (Well, they have been for a while) Both are so sweet but still a little skittish. We'll see if they remain this way once they grow up...usually once grown my ducks will distance themselves from me a bit.

These pictures were just from the other day.
