CURIOUS when do you all candle your eggs?

I read its daily for upto 1 hour until a certain amount of days .. im going to guess uptil lockdown? Ill go look for the article.

My hen gets off once every 2 or 3 days for about 15mins, eat drink dust bathe then back on the eggs. I candle around day 10 and if I'm unsure of some I'll candle day 14 or 18. One time I didn't candle at all and just left broody to do her thing and all hatched I think the less handling the eggs the better.

I don’t candle! Two hatches with a broody hen. I don’t have a good candling system (I did try, but couldn’t tell anything even in later stages). I did a good ole whiff test every now and then and hoped for the best. If I had a good candler though, I might get excited.

That's what it says. I got it after hatching season so I haven't used it yet

Oh yes my mum had exact same one last year.

I can easily see development at day 4 on white/blue/light green eggs, but on darker eggs sometimes cant see anything for sure until day 7-10.. Since i only use broody hens to incubate, & most times have broodies setting on eggs at different stages of development, i usually candle when its convenient for ME! Sometimes as early as day 4/5, & sometimes i dont get around to it until day 14 or so. I usually only candle when the broodies are off their eggs taking their daily breaks. But i do agree with u; with my very bright light, and as long as the shells arent TOO datk brown, i pretty much always see early veining and a tiny dark embryo by day 4/5.

how does this work? do you mark the eggs and take them when they're close or do you take chicks as they hatch? how long can she be broody before it's bad for her?

I think they meant multiple broodies on seperate nests

Yes thats what i meant. At the height of summer broodiness, ive had as many as 14 broodies setting on their eggs. THOSE are the times i dont have time to candle on any specific day!
