Curled Toe Paralysis

I have a silkie chicken that is roughly 5 months old. I recently noticed that it had curled toe paralysis. Is it too late to do anything about? Ive read that it is probably due to a riboflavin deficiency. My local farm store has Sav-A-Chick™ Electrolyte and Vitamin Supplement . Is it worth trying to give the hen or not?

I would get some human vitamin B complex tablets at your pharmacy or store. Cut one in half and crush it on a little food or dissolve it in a little water. Electrolytes are not good to use unless the chick is sick or dehydrated, and they can cause diarrhea when used for more than a day or two. But if that is all you can get, that would work for a few days. Feeding a bit of chopped beef liver has a lot of riboflavin in it. The earlier riboflavin is given the better the success.

Ok I will do that. Is there still a chance the chickens foot can go back to normal?

There could be, but it depends on the cause. If it is not treated early riboflavin deficiency symptoms may be permanent. Mareks disease, unfortunately can cause curled toe paralysis, especial on just one foot. Nerve damage from an injury to the leg could also be a cause. Let us know how she gets along.

Will do! Thanks for the input. Also how does one determine if its Mareks disease? Does the chicken need to be euthanized If the riboflavin doesnt help?

Mareks can be diagnosed with a necropsy and testing by the state vet. Also a blood sample can be tested by some labs such as this one which does dna testing for Mareks:

A chicken sling sometimes can help get them up and out of droppings, but life with curled toe paralysis would be a poor waye to live. Here is a good link about homemade slings and a video:
