Curled Toes on new hatchling???

Well so far so good, the splints went on fairly easy, easier than I thought. I did a combination of band aids & cardboard. She has paddles on her feet!

Poor little thing...afterwards, she looked up at me with this look of,"what do you think I'm am, a duck?"
Hope it works...

I had to intervene with a duck today.... and both feet are curled. I used cardboard pieces and tape... will this work? It appears the ankle part is curved, too. Poor thing has been flopping around for a couple hours... I had waited a bit to see if maybe he was just stiff from being in the position he was in for so long, but apparently not. I'm hoping I can fix it to where he can stand up/sit up on his own and won't suffocate in the chips... I won't be sleeping any tonight.

When my baby couldn't stand I made a nest of soft papertowels and helped it to lay on its side. 2 days went by before it could stand. I gave it honeywater several times a day by dropper and vitamins once per day too.

Thanks to this thread, I just constructed a tiny pair of corrective boots for a baby chicken.

Add THAT one to the list of "sentences I never anticipated speaking."

Their toes are so pliable the first 48 hours... almost like the bones haven't hardened yet... so you can correct it very easily with correctly taped feet. I get it from time to time in my millies feet, and 24 hours with tape is all it takes to set them straight. Of course, I never would have tried it without Miss P's guidance...
