Ok, here a new one for me...I have 4 new hatchlings, a banty mix, the last one to hatch was different..First it has black skin, legs, feet & beak but reddish yellow fluff & with feathered feet & five toes..Silkie???
It's been 14 hrs since it hatched and the toes are still curled, is this normal for this breed?

I had to use a tiny piece of cardboard and some bandaids and tape to make a boot to straighten one of my orps curled toes.

The first 2 days I only used bandaids as boots. Then when it was walking around and eating I switched over to the cardboard.

I would recommend fixing the toes with boots.

Thanks missprissy...so this is not that uncommon??? Funny that your was one that you have to intervene with, so was this one of mine.
So I take the bandaid and wrap it under and up around the front of the toes fold over the top and gently pinch the bandaid closed together?
What about his poor feathers on his feet? Oww!

I've never had silkies before and I got an assorted batch of banty eggs so I'm having to guess at what has hatched and that was sort of my conclusion based on my MM catalog description. I know there are a lot of Silkie experts out there so that's why I threw that question in there.

I cut the band aid and used the pad part under the toes because it is stiffer. Then I use the the sides and another one to tape it all together securely on each foot.

Someone also mentioned those little black velcro disks at walmart. He said that they will last longer. I hope your little girl wont be stubborn like mine and take em off. she is now 2 months old with curled toes.
