Here is a photo of the chick two days after they hatched (its the chick in the middle):

Here are some photos I took of her/him at about 11 days of age. S/he appears to have developed this problem as s/he doesn't seem to have it in any of the photos I took a couple of days after s/he hatched.

I think this is twisted toes, but she didn't have it when she hatched... I'm adding vitamins to the water and I have her in chick shoes, but would love people to weigh in and tell me exactly what this is since I'm relatively new at the chicken thing.

Hi,

It could be either, but I lean toward crooked toes. I would give it on vit. B 12 to see if it gets better. I woud also brace the foot to straighten out the toes

Okay, so regarding vitamins, all I had was a two year old unopened (but unexpired) packet of Durvet Vitamins and Electrolytes but there was a tiny hole in it (pinhole) so although the feed store told me it was still fine as long as it hadn't expired I want to go get something else - currently I have it in the brooder water. Should I try poly vi sol or something else? Can I use the poly vi sol along with the vitamins in the brooder water (give directly to the chick) not in the water? What do you advise?

I have an araucana hen that actually walks on her ankle joint. We also had some crooked toes from the same hatch. It's from in-breeding believe it or not :) hope that helps!

Oh and to fix it glue tooth picks to its feet! It will straighten them right out. The toothpicks will fall off on their own:)
