Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Pics
I saw 'Man of Steel' last weekend.

Full disclosure - I will always be more of a Christopher Reeves kind of superman fan.

That being said, if you like to see a LOT of stuff being blown up, and blown up, and blown up, then by all means - go see it. I recognize that it's a comic book and all, and thus I am not going in expecting to see realism, but I appreciate a bit of humor and wit in my comic book movies, and I found this one to be devoid of both. I didn't perceive any chemistry between Clark and Lois either.

However, the two people that we went with loved it.

If you are going to see it, do see it on the big screen, because if you do love seeing a LOT of stuff being blown up, the explosions will rock your world.

Yay Chicks thank you so much for your review. I kept putting off "Man of Steel" while watching the rating drop down and down. I prefer your review and I'm not going to see it, or Lone Ranger & Tonto either.

I did see trailers for the "The Way,Way Back" and they look really good. It's in limited release now but, saw mention that it should be at many theatres in a couple more weeks.

The Princess and I are planning on seeing "Heat" as soon as we kick these summer colds that we are dealing with.

Sour, I think summer colds are better than winter ones. I usually feel much better outside like the sun is healing me. I'll be interested in hearing you and your wife's remarks about Heat.

Well, we saw 'The Heat'. Melissa McCarthy is a seriously funny lady! The Princess and the lady to my left were laughing hysterically throughout the movie. I also found it quite funny. It is a fun type movie that flies right by. It provided an enjoyable afternoon. Whoever wrote the screenplay is a truly demented individual.

Watched Pacific Rim this evening. Lots of action, cool looking monsters and mechs, and a compelling enough story with some silly humor thrown in.
It's not a deep drama, I wasn't expecting it to be, but the story line holds together decently. Not a film I would take kids below mid teens to, IMO. Not too much language, no nude scenes, but pretty graphic with the monster fights and it could be quite scary for young kids.

I give it a Thumbs Up.

Ferret, thank you for contribulating to this thread.

I saw Paciffic Rim Friday morning. I never cared for the "Transformer" movies but I did like this. It should especially appeal to fans of the old Big Monster movies like Godzilla, Ghidrah, Rodan, Mothra etc. It could have used better acting and a plot but, it got the adrenaline pumping. The almost constant battle scenes of huge monster vs huge robots ,were vastly more creative than one big thing walloping another in usual movies of this genre. I wouldn't want to see it again. But it was a fun way to spend a hot afternoon and it never bored me.

Spoiler Alert: Several actors displayed minor nose bleeds thru the movie - which I attributed to' unknown substances'. I was wrong it was their way of portraying radiation poisoning.

OK, blame it on excessive heat and humidity or sheer boredom, but in spite of all the warnings the Princess and I went to see "The Lone Ranger". What a stupid movie - in my opinion. There were some very funny moments and exceptionally funny lines delivered by Johnny Depp, but for the most part

. At least it was cool in the theater.

Sour thank for you reinforcing my belief that Lone Ranger was a dud. A friend and her relatives went to see it and said they all loved it. I almost lost my resolve but, no you have given me new strength, I WILL not go see it.

I do hope to see "The Way, Way Back" on Sunday.
