I was born the year after your story an to this day have never seen that movie.
Well, if science fiction isn't your thing, it isn't.

The SPFX seem a bit sparse and primitive by today's standards, but Industrial Light and Magic was breaking new ground when they did what they did on that film. My greatest criticism of the whole Star Wars saga has always been, "George Lucas cannot write dialog!!"

- and it's as true in this movie as in any of the others. As my husband likes to say, it's a "just turn the brain off, and enjoy the ride" kind of show.

I'm sorry to say I saw "The World's End," Friday. I was led astray yet again by three top(?) reviewers who said it was hysterical. Must have been the same audience from Elysium. Show about 1/3 full, mostly young boys (teen years and up). I think they(and me) expected it to be like "Hangover." It wasn't. Hangover was rude and crude and worse but, very funny. World's End was not.

I usually crack up at British humor but couldn't find any traces of it. The audience was totally mute - not even a boo or any kind of response but, they did leave quickly when the movie ended. So did I.

The theatre(an AMC) had the usual problems. The volume was so low I couldn't make out any words on the commercials (who cares) but, also on what they call "first look," Instead of going into the trailers at show time it just kept replaying the junk we couldn't hear. Three different people had to go out and complain and finally 20 minutes later some human, presumably got the projector going.

Re: theatre not movie
I'm a very superstitious person, I should have taken that as an omen that the movie stunk, and got up and asked for a refund or return ticket. The theatre chain was bought out by foreign interests some time ago. Theatres were supposed to me remodeled etc. etc.- ours has not but, they raised prices just in case. Most of the faucets in the bathroom do not operate, soap dispensers are usually empty. The automatic paper towel dispensers are off again - on again when they actually have paper in them. I have complained many times to deaf ears. If there was any other theatre I could reach on foot or on senior bus, I wouldn't come back.

Your tale of the gradual demise of that theater is just what happened to our last local theater. No repairs, filthy, yet continual increases in prices. Eventually they were razed, and another mall is taking their place.

The two theaters that we now go to are a half an hour drive one to the East and one to the South (better drive).

You would find AMC Theater headquarters as :

AMC Entertainment, Inc.

P.O. Box 725489
Atlanta, GA 31139-9923

Drop them a letter, do twitter...whatever it takes to get their
attention. I understand some ate privately owned. But they
still answer to the mother company. You aren't looking for
manager of your local moviehouse....move beyond them.

We'll all agree the movie is the movie: good, bad or otherwise.
Go see whatever film(s) please you. But the actual theater is
another choice. If a company of whatever nature wants my
business, they need to act like it. If it for whatever reason does
not suit me, I can and will spend my dollars elsewhere.

And in my own way, I'm pretty picky. I want a clean, well lit
parking lot, clean building, clean bathrooms...I expect to have
a nice experience when I'm out.

You may even go as far as to speak with whoever routes the
Senior Bus. What other options are available to you as a group?
A nice library? A nice meal? A mall trip? Even to the extent of
perhaps having the Senior exective speak with the theater.

My point is that neither you nor anyone else need spend their
dollars at any business that does not please you.

Spook

Your are right Spook. In our case (seniors with no other transportation) can't go out of the township borders except for Dr.apts. We also can't go anywhere before 9 am or return later than 2:30 pm so we are stuck. I should say it's a free bus, and the township is just about the only one that offers that. I only know of 2 or 3 other women that go to the show occasionally. Most of the seniors do not like the modern movies or tv shows & won't watch them.

The Original Star Wars Trilogy is one of my favourites. The effects never seem primitive to me despite the growing world of special effects. However the Prequel Trilogy's dialogue is absolutely awful! So lifeless! The characters just didn't fit the part and I can barely sit through it all.
And although The Return of the Jedi appeals to my Sci-fi side, I still love a good mystery movie - one when you've got to think.

It was a dreary rainy day so we went to the movies. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND $ ON "Ain't Them Bodies Saints". I can say nothing good. We hated the cinematography. Lines were mumbled. And many scenes just made no sense. Tedious, tedious, tedious - had some good fried chicken afterwards so the day was not a complete waste.
