People are predicting it's going to be the best grossing film of all time...what do you think?

It will definitely be a blockbuster, but I'd be surprised if it breaks Avatar's record of $2,788,000,000 worldwide. A lot of people were predicting that the Avengers would become the top grossing film of all time as well and while it did open to record numbers in the long run it has only grossed $1,519,600,000. Certainly a lot of money but still $1,268,400,000 short of Avatar. Of course if you adjust for inflation, Gone With the Wind blows all other movies, including Avatar. away.

Saw "The Intern" today with Robert DeNiro. Last night at a party one of the movie gals said she had already seen it, but she was going to see it again because "It makes you feel good to be a senior."
I snorted. "Prefer not to be reminded about my age." But, alas, I knew the eldsters in the group would vote for that or any Helen Mirren/Jane Austin/Nicolas Sparks film rather than for my choice, Sicario, which -- although gritty, violent and realistic -- will be up for several Oscar-worthy performances.

"The Intern" is a cute story about a bored widower senior who decides he needs to fill his time and, ergo, applies for and becomes a Zappos-like firm's elder intern. Ann Hathaway plays the company's founder who takes a goodly portion of the movie discovering what a valuable gem her life-experienced new hire is. DeNiro, as usual, put in a good performance with his usual mugging of smiling and shrugging shoulders. (Sorry...not a single Oscar vote in the flick) Renee Russo is looking great and nice to see her back in the movies. Best scenes in the movie, IMHO, involve the "casserole lady," a senior single trying to hook her claws into the lonely widower that she's taken more than an interest in. A nice feel good movie.

Highlights of today's cinema trek were the previews. Having sat through a weekly six months of the Chris Hemsley prelude to Moby Dick, it was nice that things got switched up. We were hooting in our seats over the trailer for "Pride + Prejudice + Zombies" which gets my vote for the chastely spoke line of "Ladies of the day should be well-versed in the art of dancing, embroidery...and FIGHTING!" (Cue the thigh-strapped sabers coming into action in a flash of petticoats. Oh, this is SUCH a guy's fantasy film.....)
