Re: 12 years a slave

Sour I don't recall him being a redhead but, he WAS a psycho, and alcoholic- Michael Fassbender, who is also in "The Counselors,". I chose not to see that because they said it had a lot of decapitations, and worse.

Did you notice Alex from Prisoners? Maybe not because he had a pale face instead of a raw hamburger look. He was an overseer I think. I'm sure the owner took the little girl with EVIL on his mind(or other places)

The other slaves were afraid to speak up or aid each other and rightly so. That is still played out in other circumstances where today's victims are afraid of retribution from gangs and criminals. Some things never change.

'Alex' yes - started out evil - got his butt kicked good.

Wasn't Fassbender's beard red? One thing I learned in this movie is that I am really near deaf. With so much low, soft dialogue I missed half of what was going on.

Me too Sour. I don't hear well and pester my brother with "what did they say?" He has eye problems and can't see well - he didn't recognize Alex. Next time I think we should sit closer to the screen for both our sakes.

3 1/2 STARS for ENDER'S GAME I was honestly mesmerized by it, even tho I knew the spoilers and that people who read the book ,hated the movie. . I never read the book so enjoyed it as a stand alone piece. There are other books in this series, now I am very eager to see the next one.

Finally saw "Captain Phillips" - thought it was great and a definite 'must see'. Tom Hanks delivered masterfully. Where the heck did they cast the Somali pirates from? They sure looked as if they were chewing Khat. Scary dudes they were for sure.

Sour I read up on Captain Phillips and saw Tom Hanks on one of the Tonight(whatever) show. He said the Somalis came from Minnesota - there is a very large Somalia community there.

Who knew? I would imagine that the Minn. weather would be a major shock to those used to living in Somalia. It would be a shock to me too.

Expect to see "About Time," at the show Friday. It's a rom-com but, I'm probably overdue for seeing one of those. My major reason for seeing it, is the male lead is a redhead, and my son is/was a redhead till he decided to shave his head. What can I say sometimes I see movies for odd reasons. Oh I also love Bill Nighy who plays the father ,not a redhead tho.

Holding off on "Thor 2" because I've heard it was pretty much a rerun of the first movie. I do like Thor but, think I would be a much better match for him than Natalie Portman - we are both very short but I am rotund and she isn't. Poor girl is just skin and bones.

dee dee, did you see "About Time"? We saw it this evening and enjoyed it. To quote E, "It was a cute movie." I thought that Bill Nighy as the father was particularly good. Two hours of easy entertainment that was well enjoyed.

Yes did see " ABOUT TIME," it was sweet and charming - no explosions or gore - what a nice change of pace. Actually I thought I had already submitted the review maybe I forgot to hit SEND. It wouldn't be the first time. I think people should just go and see it. Bill Nighy is a scene stealer but the leads are very good too. I think a lot of us would wish to make better first impressions, even if we have to do it over a few times to get it right.

I haven't had luck promoting it on the senior bus - I think if I left out the time travel part they might be interested. It was the same deal with my favorite "Warm Bodies," as soon as I said it was a zombie rom-com I lost my audience. Wish people would stretch their comfort zone - it's only a movie - when I do, I'm usually well pleased.

THOR -the Dark World. Things have changed since the first Thor, stand alone movie. He has gotten more to do than parade around with muscles bulging, and has learned to be kinder, compassionate and still take off his shirt a little to keep the ladies happy.

This is much better than the initial Thor movie- more humor, some quotable one liners. Loki (his adopted brother) really shines with his evil machinations, treachery, cunning and general Loki-ness. He is a scene stealer to the point where I expect he will be getting his own movie at some point.

The movie could have dropped some of the traveling from realm to realm of the galaxies., seen one you've seen them all . It was more interesting when things happened on Earth but, the sight gags and quips kept it moving and the audience seemed to enjoy it as much as I did.

If you are a veteran of Marvel comic movies you know that after the credits you reap the reward of a bonus scene. This time you'll get 2 for your patience. One scene pops up soon after the credits start to roll, if you hold on till the end you will see another.

Thor-the Dark World entertained me and put me in a good mood- for that I grant it 3 1/2 stars.
