Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Sour you sure have a lot of "rainy" days to go movie watching. "Nebraska," has departed shows in our area.

We got more snow which is now blowing and drifting. Had intended to go out today but, too icky. We live at the end of the block so all the snow from the corner etc. gets pushed down the street and dumped across the driveway. Even when it isn't much snow, it sure piles up from traveling that far.

If I do a real good job(have 44 years experience) and push the mountain of snow into the field next to us, the next time the plow guy comes, he thinks he did that. So does a better job.

IF AMC doesn't crud things up Jan.10 is supposed to be the release of " HER", I will go regardless of what critics say. Meanwhile we are supposed to get a few more inches of snow and blowing and drifting. Mon and Tues highs are supposed to be below 0.

My son just went back home(WA) and added me to his Nexflix thingy were you can watch on your computer monitor. I LOVE IT. I discovered "Sherlock" with Benedict Cumberbatch (we call him Cumberbun) and Bilbo(can't recall his real name) as Watson. Far and away better than any sherlocky thing I have seen. Of course the Brits made it - which is where the difference lies.

Now I have to share computer time with BYC and Netflix - my poor plants(hundreds that I hybridized) are really suffering from neglect.

Tomorrow afternoon through Friday we are supposed to get 'your' storm with high winds and drifting. We figured we would get out while we could.

I took down our outside Christmas decorations today, so earned a little away time.

"Inside Llewyn Davis" - I think that I must have missed something here. If someone sees/has seen this what did you think? It's not a show that I am recommending. As a matter of fact, I found it quite boring.

"Mandela" on the other hand held my complete attention from start to finish.

I've been quite remiss re: review of 'HER' that I saw last Sunday. I've written the critique many times in my mind but, couldn't get it to paper. The biggest obstacle was coming to terms with a movie I have been extremely eager and anxious to see and the utter dismay I felt after doing so. The trailers and professional reviews offered up sweet, frothy , upbeat entertainment. The movie did not deliver on my expectations.

There is the "meet cute," man meets OSi, then suddenly turns and bites. Lonely guy, plays hologramic video game with extremely foul mouth character that spouts off directly to him,. , man engages in what amounts to explicit phone sex without the phone, etc. I'm sorry to offer spoilers when some audiences may enjoy this. I just felt cheated . I was tricked into seeing this movie under false pretenses. I found it odd that in all the posted reviews no one mentioned this turn of events. Had I known I would have seen a different movie.

My brother and I were both dumbstruck when out of the blue, sweet & funny morphed into obscenities and porn. There wasn't a sound from the audience. Nobody discussed it with companions leaving the theatre - I think most of us just wondered "WHAT HAPPENED??"

PLEASE do NOT take children to see this. I wish someone would have stopped us from going.

Hope to see "Lone Survivor" on Sunday - I'm certain it will be what I expect.

For the moment I am at peace with Hollywood. "Lone Survivor," was everything I expected it to be and more - excellent. Brother & I felt the same way. The title gives away the ending but it didn't diminish the story (based on truth) in any way. Four Navy Seals sent on an impossible mission in Afghanistan = very difficult movie to watch , just as difficult not to. Topnotch cast and performances

3 1/2 STARS.

Note: bad language, graphic violence

Love your reviews!!

We enjoy movies but usually wait until it comes out on DVD. At home we can talk and the volume is several notches lower. lol

"Lon Survivor" is not on my " to see list" as it is hust as I expected, violent and bad language.

eminds me of when DH and went to see "total Recall" when it was released in the theaters. I fixated on the extensive bad language-- extensive. WHen it came outon TV, we watched it again, me with gret reservation, yet I was sucked right into the plot. When the second add arrived I suddenly realized why I was enjoying the film--- NO swearing, NONE. TV rules had removed all the bad language. IT was an entertaining movie. I never will buy the DVD though.

Arielle thank you for your kind words, sometimes I think no one cares about movies anymore with all the cable shows, video games, texting and whatever it is they do.

I watch two tv shows a week and the news/weather daily. I do like to watch movies at the show especially when the audience is moved by them. It's rare but, I can recall times when the people gave a standing ovation at the end of a movie. They used to applaud or cheer occasionally but doesn't seem to happen anymore.

I love your reviews, too. keep up the great work!

I have back problems so it is hard for me to go see movies in the theater, The second half of even the best movie sees me distracted and sqirming in my seat: Distracted and distracting to others. So it really has to be good for me to go. but I love your reviews and am making my list for when they come out on DVD.

So although I don't post much, I make a beeline to this thread when I come to BYC.

LOL We don't have cable, and TV viewing changesd with the cloud cover. ANd upstairs differs from down stairs. We watch a lot of DVD movies. No video games, no texting here. Library also has an every growing lineup of DVD-- wish they had ekpt the ol stuff on VSH like "Murder she wrote". Delightlfully simple.
