I haven't kept up with this seasons NCIS due to scouts, but we ahve many seasons on DVD. IT allows us to discuss " story telling" and the science ... which is often incoreect but makes for a good story. Oddly they don't bat an eye at the NCIS but limit their interaction witht butchering a bird for dinner to plucking!

I'm usually drawn to the relationships between the characters and miss the old "Murder, she wrote" show and love the "HEat of the NIght" replays-- such a different view now that I am 30 years older!! lol

We are watching "Battleship" -- fairly good for a military based story about alien invasion during a pacific rim organized manuvers. GOod story telling, and extras at the opening ceremonies are real millitary personel; and one particular character stood out to me: a veteren with double prostetics in rehab. HE screamed ex miliary and sure enough in the "making of" he is a lt col and the others soldiers in the initial scene at PT are real veterans too. Many of the graphics are "tramsformer"- like. A good action flick.

For our Christmas date we saw "Wolf of Wall Street". 3 interminable hours of gratuitous swearing, nudity, lewdness' drug use, and sex. To me this movie was pornographic, and trust me I am far from prudish. People got up and left during the movie, and I probably should have also. As we were walking out the Princess looked at me and said, "Not one of your favorites, Huh?" I never said a word during the movie, but she said that she was watching my face. It's not that I didn't like this movie - I DISLIKED every bit of it. De Caprio's portrayal of a despicable man in a despicable movie was probably outstanding, but I disliked this movie to the point that I could not appreciate his skills. If anyone else has seen this movie, what did you think? If you haven't seen it, don't waste your time and money.

Sour, I'm sorry you saw Wolf because of my poor review for American Hustle. Next to your critique of Wolf. I think you would have found the excess boobage, etc(Hustle) a blessing.

I thought the review of Wolf sounded a lot like his Great Gatsby movie - which I couldn't bring myself to spend $$ on either. I guess there is nothing worth seeing until "HER." My AMC will allegedly have it open Jan 20 I believe. If that one also reeks, I may give up movies till spring.

What did Princess think of Wolf???

deedee, I told the Princess that I was going to blame you for us seeing "Wolf".

No need to apologize.

Excess boobage was nothing. We are talking that plus full frontal nudity plus sexual activity of any imagined sort including group gay sex. I'm serious - so close to porn that

. About every third word contained an 'F' bomb in it's many variations.

Seriously it was like a pornographic version of "Great Gatsby". Spot on!

The Princess thought that De Caprio was excellent but that the movie was not.

Best part of the evening was that we found a diner that was open so I did not have to cook supper.

Sour, I don't think Leo was "playing" the role. From what I have heard & read about him, his actual life ,regarding booze, broads and kinky sex etc., has turned off a lot of the celebrity folks and that is considered the big reason he hasn't been winning Oscars. I used to think he was such a great person besides actor then he started taking darker and weirder roles - probably because he could do it in his sleep. What a shame!

So seen first current movie in a while...the new Hobbit. I loved it!!! the scenery was breathtaking andI thought the river fight scene was wonderful. I thought the acting was well done and nuanced...especially the guy who does Bilbo. and I loved the way they visualized the fight scene between Gandalf and Sauran. Very cool.

And although I am not interested in women, I was completely smitten with thatredheaded elf.

Took two tweens to 47 Ronin today. An action flick to fill the needs of boys loving nerf guns.

THe weapons and armorment was like vising the Higgins Armory which we have all been to numerous times. ANd I of course loved the good horses. THe story was well written, and not cluttered by expectations of well known actors-- at least I didn't recognize any of them. A story of honor at all costs, respect, humilty, integrity, service and moments of foregiveness. All wrapped up in a typical good versus evil theme. One of the best endings of any movie I have ever seen. From the climax of the last conflict, to the last scene.

THe 47 Ronin are remembered at their memorial every Dec 14th.

Keanu Reeves starred. Sorry, I didn't rrecognize him. He was referred to as the half-breed which thru me because he didn't look like a half Japanese at all, lol.

After reading the history as listed above, good writing amazes me.

Thumbs up.

Just saw "Philomena", - Judi Dench was fantastic, or typical Judi Dench performance. She is MY choice of Oscar for best actress and never needed to disrobe to rate that high. The man that played opposite her - I don't even know his name- gave a great performance as well. I will have to delve into what movies he has done previously. I don't recall ever seeing him but, it's obvious he didn't need to resort to cheap axe murder/ horror movie to hone his acting chops.

There is something so nice about giving yourself over to real quality plot and performances. It cleanses the brain after some real stinkers and restores my love for movies. I give Philomena 4 stars (the top rating the newspaper critics hand out). My brother felt the same way.

The roads finally melted, and we had cabin fever so we went to see 'Philomena'. Dame Judi Dench - what a performance! This movie is worth seeing. I still have a lump in my throat and an emotional tightness in my chest over the injustices visited upon this woman and her child. Ironically the order of nuns integral to the telling of this story is the same order that 'taught/tormented' my wife for 9 years.

deedee, see this one - I want to see your opinion.

So very glad that you enjoyed this movie. I'm still p*ssed at those nuns.
