Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

I recall in college days there was a drive-in outside of Davis on the way to Sacramento. It was the Westlane, I believe, but everyone called it the Wet Lane because they showed XXX films. All the surrounding acreage was vast farmland, so no neighbors visibly offended. I have no idea if it's still there, but probably not as the location is prime buildable land.
That theater was not here in 1992 when we moved to Woodland

The one that is in Sacramento is off of Hwy 50 past Sacramento State University

I know this was posted a while ago and it is kind of hard to say with Covid going around and most theaters closed. However, lately I've been into Stephen King movies for some weird reason. My husband got me into them haha! So I've been streaming them on Amazon Prime. I'd have to say for during the time they were rated PG-13 for the most part?

Honeyland (2019), a Macedonian documentary about a woman and her mother who live in isolation and tend wild bees, is a perfect film for our current strange times. It's beautiful, sad, hopeful and about (re)connecting with the natural world. It's currently showing on Hulu.
Thanks for the review!

Be forewarned:

"Lolli Fat to Lolli Six-Pack" on Netflix is nothing but an overall indulgent infomercial for the creator's new company! (The creator used to be a mega mogul real estate person, so sales is not a new aspect to his persona.) Said company introduced towards the end of the movie so that you're hooked in before realizing what's going on.

This movie is the true story of a morbidly obese millionaire/billionaire who retired and then spent 9 months transforming himself into a muscle-bound competitor. He hired three different trainers for his 6+ hours a day workout routine in cardio, HIIT and body building and also flew in a nutritionist/coach from Australia to live with him and his family. Plus there's assorted other staff brought in for various aspects of this project.
(Yes, sure, nice to be that rich! If you had those resources -- and a pretty good dose of vanity -- you could accomplish the transformation, too!)

Found the surgery aspect of his transformation both interesting and horrifying.

Thanks for the review! I hadn't heard of that film. Well, I definitely have a mega dose of vanity, but lack the resources to have a full-time workout job and staff and surgery is terrifying LOL. But it's fun to watch films like that and dream...

Yesterday "The King of Staten Island" dropped at the Redbox. This movie was co-written and stars Pete Davidson (SNL cast member) in a semi-autobiographical story of his life. I didn't have many expectations for this one, but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Pete, if you aren't aware, is the son of a firefighter who perished in 9/11 and has been beset by assorted mental and psychological conditions (ADD, depression, possible schizophrenia.) He lives with his mother on Staten Island (in a house he bought for her, so it's not like he's the slacker son as portrayed in the film.)

The movie is NOT a comedy, although it does have some funny and poignant moments as he navigates various relationships and obstacles and touches briefly on mental illness. It features Marissa Tomei as Pete's mother and Steve Bucemi as one of the firefighters. Judd Apatow directs.

Thanks for the review! My kids and I have been wanting to see this since we are SNL fanatics
