Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Mike Stoller who in conjunction with Jerry Leiber wrote "Hound Dog" for Big Mama Thornton says that in reality that is not true.
Thats a lot of he said she said. Either way the songs were great. But a lot of them were "appropriated" from Jackie Wilson. By appropriate I mean he stole the arrangements and vocal phrasing. I've seen artists sued for far less. That wasn't necessarily his fault but that of his agent. In truth he wasn't the only one that did that. Just look at Berry Goudy. He stole a LOT of songs from his fellow black artists. It wasn't necessarily stealing because he paid them but he paid them for pennies on the dollar. I'm glad that black musicians are finally able to thrive in our society but Elvis's world was a far different world than now. And I think it's odd that we're just now having a biopic on him when so many that were alive then that knew the world are no longer with us

Just to continue the Elvis chatter, I saw it last night but I enjoyed it more than @sourland . I agree it was disjointed, but it seems his life was lived at such a pace that I don't know how they could have included more detail and pack it all into one film because it's already quite long (159 minutes). I have never been a fan of Elvis Presley, I find that much glitz unreal and unrelatable, so I'd never fully paid attention to his life story until last night. This morning, I'm still troubled by the deeply unethical practices of his profoundly parasitic manager. I found the film tried to entertain more than it tried to present factual details, however it portrayed Elvis as someone who belonged within the Beale Street blues culture. If that's not true, it seems very clear Elvis appropriated the music of others. And if it is true, he was more inspired by the music he shared with others on Beale Street than appropriating of it. Anyway, I'm going thumbs up and 3.5 stars on the film.

I’m not sure whom “DD” is but, have had a similar feeling towards a couple other BYC users over the last 2 of the 3yrs I’ve been here…
It's scary when folks just disappear. I know we are just dots and dashes, but some of them I like.
