Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

deedee, glad that you enjoyed "Dallas Buyers Club"! It was a miserable, cold, windy day here - too nasty to 'play' outdoors so we looked for a movie. Not much to trip our triggers so we settled on "Deliveryman". It was good entertainment and fun to watch. Amazingly no violence (well a little), not a curse word, no sex and plenty of laughs with some great lines well delivered. I'll give it 3.5 stars on the 5 star system.

Sour, the real "dee dee" was one of my favorite Cockers, she finished her championship so fast she never got lead broken. She was beautiful and sweet and quite ditzy all thru her life till she died of kidney failure at 14. That was a long time ago and I still miss her. Whenever you call me "dee dee," I always smile, remembering her. Thanks.

On a miserable, cold, rainy day what is one to do? "Let's go to the movies", and we did. We saw "The Book Thief" - 2 + hours very well spent. Elaine and I recommend this movie heartily - you may want to bring a handkerchief - fair warning.

Cold & Icky but not rainy - I saw "Out of the Furnace" with Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson, Casey Affleck etc. Very good movie but, very brutal. Woody has come a very long way since the tv show "Cheers." I've read that Bale is a very difficult person to work with but, you don't have to be a fan to appreciate his acting chops. I was fascinated by how much he can convey with just a look- rather than a page of dialogue.

My hope- to -see -list has expanded : Saving Mr. Banks, Her, Hobbit, American Hustle, Wolf of Wallsteet.

OUT OF THE FURNACE - if anyone has seen this movie would you kindly tell me what happens in the last scene of Christian Bale sitting by himself. For the life of me I don't comprehend what I saw. It's driving me nuts!

I saw Hunger Games - Catching Fire on Thanksgiving Day. My friends - who paid my way AND took me to the Diamon Hotel for T-Day Dinner - are huge fans of the Hunger Games franchise. The 17 year old daughter has read all the books, even before the first was made into a movie. Handy to have her along, so she could translate and add to my understanding. We sat much closer to the screen than I usually choose to sit, so the view was quite large. I think it helped me catch most of the action, although *I* felt overwhelmed at times. I recognized Catniss was suffering from PTST/D right away, so I didn't get confused until a bit later. Diva, I also missed presidential grooming.... The graphics were spectacular, although there was one colorful, lizardy creature which slithered up a tree in a suddenly CGI-ish manner. The Training Center holographic cubes scattering as each antagonist was destroyed were less jarring and quite cool, by comparison. The clock face battle arena was pretty darned clever, although the deliberate "Let's see how well they keep track of time now" spinning maneuver made me spend too much analytical effort trying to understand how that could possibly work, and popped me out of the story line for a bit. Still, I would give the movie a three point five score on a five point scale. To me, that's well worth a viewing.

I got rid of my TV service ( we don't have "local" service here..only satellite) about a year ago so I don't see any trailers for movies unless I'm on the internet or I get a DVD with movie trailers. My mother called me a over a week ago and told me she got Snow White and the Huntsman in from Netflix and wanted to know if I wanted to watch it. I said sure, went over and brought it home. Well things happened and I didn't get to watch it until 4 days later. I wasn't really that interested in it from what I remembered from previews at the movies so I wasn't in a hurry to watch it. Well mom called and asked if I had watched it yet and mailed it back. I said no and sat down to watch it. I do not know what it was about that movie but I watched it 3 times in a row, then every day 2 times a day for the week after that. It got mailed back yesterday and I am trying to find it on DVD now. It was AWESOME! And I agree with whoever it was that said Chis Hemsworth can act without his Thor hammer. He is a talented actor. I want to see Rush when it comes to DVD.

Saw Thor 2 two times. Gonna see Frozen next. That movie looks hilarious!

Obviously you are a fine movie critic - tho it's not hard to love Chris Hemsworth. He can even act with his shirt on. He has mighty strong mojo. Hope to see Hobbit the Desolation of Smaug tomorrow. Next weekend hope for American Hustle, Saving Mr.Banks, and something else, I've already forgotten.
Santa - PLEASE bring me movie cards. He usually does but, I need them NOW. After Xmas the movies usually aren't that good, so gift cards usually last till spring.
