Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Today we saw "McFarland USA". A true story well told. We really enjoyed this movie. A true counterbalance to "Alice" - uplifting for sure. I am an admitted Kevin Costner fan.

Forgot to mention several cameo appearances by an EE hen.

I gotta see that one too. I love me an underdog.

Nope, no credits for the hen. I can't remember whether or not you saw "Whiplash". We saw it this evening. The performance that J K Simmons delivered BLEW ME AWAY. I hated Mr Fletcher from the second he appeared on screen to the last seconds of the film. I wanted to slap him silly, and I cheered when he got his butt kicked! WOW! I can fully understand the honors that this performance has garnered for him.

I need to see that too. J.K. Simmons is an amazing actor, and I really like the fact that people who aren't considered good looking in the traditional Hollywood sense are starting to be cast in the bigger roles. I don't know if it's because of HD, or if we're finally starting to appreciate actors mainly for their acting skills, but it's positive development. I'm not saying J.K. Simmons is ugly, but he's no George Clooney.

I agree J.K. has been great in so many movies and I would always scramble to the credits to see who the heck he was. Wonder what his full name is. He should be able to afford one by now. Gene Hackman was never a pretty boy either, or I'd say Robert Duval but, never mattered.

The Princess went to see "Shades of Gray" - I had no inclination to see it and was busy enough that I could excuse myself. She said it was true to the book, but whereas the book was erotic the movie was sad. I asked, "Would I have liked it?" "No."
