Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

I pretty much agree with your assessment of Affleck, but in this movie he portrays a high functioning autistic individual in a fashion that is quite believable.

I don't know whether or not you have read any of the 'Jack Reacher' novels, but if so what a stretch to picture Tom Cruise as 'Jack Reacher'.

I haven't seen any of the Reacher movies or read the books. I just did read a review on Wallstreet Journal ( my brother forwards the reviews) and apparently, it's same old, same old.

I won't be wasting my money on it.

I'm not a Ben Affleck fan either, but I enjoyed "Argo". On the strength of that, I'd give him a go in other films. I really dislike Tom Cruise, but I liked him in that one where he was a hit man getting driven around in a taxi.
Even the ones you don't like can be in "ok" movies. I wouldn't pay to see at the cinema, but if they are on tv, I'll give them a go.

Potato Chip- definitely loved the one with Cruise and Jamie Fox as the cab driver. That was an "edge of the seat," kind of movie. Jamie was also excellent portraying Ray Charles,.

The bad thing about watching on TV is the 9 million commercials and the best parts cut out.
I always tape it so I can fast-forward over the ads. If it's cut, that's a no-go. Our public libraries also lend dvds, I borrow a lot of movies and tv series. It is better to watch a dvd than a tv version, that's for sure. I also buy dvds, I've got several movies I haven't yet watched.....

Has anyone seen some of the new tv shows/ streaming stuff - would love recommendations: I loved Sherlock, Daredevil, Stranger Things, etc. need something to tide me over till the next marathon viewing.

I like Sci-Fi with some quirky humor. Netflix still has "Warehouse 13" (I think. I also get Amazon prime movies and forget who has what).

Look around and you may be able to find Eureka. One of my favorites.

If you like the quirky but a bit scarier genre, then Netflix has "Haven."

I second the movie "Sully." It was absolutely uplifting. Tom Hank's ability to carry the character kept the movie from being dull.

Another fun movie, amazingly so, is "Mayor Cupcake." Trust me, it is a hoot to watch this election season. Clean family flick but lots of fodder for political thought.

I'm waiting for the movie in December, "Hidden Figures," which tells the story of the black women who contributed behind the scenes to the science and math of NASA.

Totally second Inspector Lewis...pretty sure Amazon Prime has that...maybe Netflix. Much, much, prefer it over the old Inspector Morse who I found extremely arrogant and smug...dialogue written to impress rather than being impressive. But the new series from the sidekick Lewis is compelling...if you liked Sherlock, you'll like Lewis.

I've got more but out of time. I'll drop by from time to time as I like to watch old movies and stream tv in my "down time."

Thank you very much LofMc for you comments and information. I think we have a lot of sci-fi folk out there - I try not to see the really spooky ones, I am a coward, and that would mean bedroom light on for quite a spell.
