Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Well we saw "3 Billboards....."this morning. Wow some movie, the language I am used to - the violence committed by one person with incredible guilt feelings did shift to "caricature " rather than grieving parent.

I really liked the movie and performances but the ending was pure fantasy - that's why mental hospitals, and sometimes electric chairs have to be called into service.

Hard to watch and listen to, I was really exhausted by the time the screen went black.

"I, Tonya" looks as if it might be okay.
I hadn't heard anything about that, but just saw it on a report about the Golden Globes nominations. Margot Robbie also produced it. She's really doing well for herself over there.
There were a couple of aussies in 3 billboards. The chief's wife and the bimbo girlfriend. In the "small world" category I know somebody who knows that bimbo girl. She's Hugo Weaving's niece. He's a well-known Australian actor. I thought she was really funny in her scenes, did a good job.
I wish we had spoiler tags.....

Saw the Blade Runner 2049 movie. Loved it. Gorgeous set design, costumes and cinematography, good story, good performances. I have trouble sitting through an ordinary movie, yet sat through this waiting to see what happened. (my legs were killing me afterwards, but it was worth it) I was particularly impressed with Ryan Gosling, I thought he did a great job of his role.

Logan is very good !

I never knew Hugo Weaving was an Aussie. He pops up in a lot of movies, "The Red Skull " in Captain America, "Mr.Smith," in The Matrix, Can't recall his name in "Lord of the Rings," he was the elf King.

I know who you're talking about. I didn't know he was the red skull though. I'll be sure to see if I can pick him out

To be strictly accurate he's actually british and was born in Africa and lived in England and South Africa when he was young, but he's lived here a long time, went to NIDA, had a lot of his success here, etc. We call a lot of people Aussies when they are from somewhere else (eg Russell Crowe, who's actually a kiwi).
I don't know whether you've heard about all of the "drama" in our Parliament with all of our Aussies not really being aussie and getting kicked out, but it's a bit of a "hot potato" at the moment. Not sure what Hugo's citizenship really is, but ask anyone and they'd say he's an Aussie. Yes, he's been in a lot of international movies, he's been very successful.

EDIT: I think Hugh Jackman's actually English, as well. I loved "Logan", thought it was a really good movie. Bit sad, though, have your hankie handy.
