-Cursed Waters: A Dragon RP, The Story-

[Part 4]
About three weeks have passed.

Tide and Whisp busied around the clinic, packing several tonics and medicines for Starshine. “I’ve never been to the Cloud City before, what’s it like Whisp?” Tide asked.
The new, shiny-scaled Imago smiled. “It’s great! The guards at the top have bracelets for visiting Tribes, so they can fly and breathe easier in the high altitude. The city looks light and floaty- like an Aerattl!” He laughed.
The handsome green and gold Imago had cracked yesterday, causing Tide to freak out because of his yelling- but it turned out just to be an added dramatic effect. Starshine had laughed. “I did the same thing when I cracked my pupa shell.” She had said to a grinning Whisp. “My parents freaked out too, of course.”

But now Whisp looked better than ever with his shining emerald and gold scales.
“It sounds awesome!” Tide piped up happily. It felt great to be cared by someone who she knew wasn’t going to leave her behind. “Are you almost ready, mom?” Tide said. The young pupa had taken to calling Starshine ‘mom.’ Whisp did it, and she was practically his sister, so why couldn’t she?
Starshine nodded as she came from the small greenhouse in the back “Just about. Don’t forget to grab some of the seaweed lotion and the aloe vera.” The black dragon with white scattered scales buckled on her medical supply bag and went outside, where a fresh ocean breeze blew in from. Tide grabbed the seaweed lotion from a shelf. “So what does the clinic in-town look like anyway?” The little blue and sand-colored dragon asked her brother. “Well, it’s pretty much like this one. I think the in-town one is bigger though, cause there’s more dragons.” “Oh, cool!” Tide said, fitting a bag around her neck.
“Hurry up you two!” Starshine called. “It’s evening and I want to get to the clinic before nightfall!”
“Oop- we’d better go.” Whisp said, floating gracefully out the door. “Wait for me!” Tide called, and followed her brother.

Midnight.

A dark shadow shifted silently on the roof of Starshine’s beachside clinic. A small glint of light reflected off a periscope held in the dark form’s talons. It slowly lowered.
Seemingly talking to himself, the dragon said; “They’re long gone.”

A deep voice hissed dangerously. “You’ve never BEEN so worthless to me as of these days.”

Flint winced as though the speaker had been right in front of him in person. “I can-“
“NO.” The voice interrupted.
“I have sent Azira to complete what you could not.
“And I had
better not see your face until you can do something actually USEFUL for me for once.”

The black Enfernae pressed his teeth together. Hard. He’d get Tide. He’d get her and bring her before his master. NO ONE could tell him that he wasn’t useful..

Except Apollyon.

Much later…

Amethyst groaned. What had last happened in her mind? Well, in real life, that it.
She remembered her daddy putting her to bed..
“Good night, sweetheart.” “Nighty-night, daddy!” Amethyst said. Axel smiled lovingly at her. “Are you sure your okay?” He said, a slight concern still riding his voice from earlier. Amethyst rolled her eyes. “Silly daddy, of course I’m all right.” “A fall like that could hurt pupa like you!” Axel said still, and Amethyst giggled. “Your so funny daddy, of course I’m okay! Our ceiling is only as high as five mes! You keep ducking your head!” “Yes, well-“ “C’mon daddy, I’m going to sleep now, see?” The furry little pupa struck a ridiculous sleeping position, and Axel chuckled. “Yes, I see. Okay, my dearest. Goodnight.” The large Solosis kissed his daughter and left her room silently.

She remembered sneaking out..
One eye blinked open.
Two.
The furry, batlike pupa hopped eagerly out of her bed and peered around the corner of her room. Axel lay silently, softly breathing. Amethyst smiled, and hopped over to her bed. She stuck her head under, her antennae wiggling eagerly as she lifted a secret trapdoor up- just enough space for her body to fit.
She crept slowly down the tunnel leading to the Great Cave- humming a quiet little song to herself.

And she remembered talking with her friend at the mouth of the Great Cave..
“Guess who!” Amethyst giggled, clapping her furry, iconic paws over a green Solosis’ eyes.
“Let me guess.. Amethyst!” Shilah said happily. “Yep!” The little pupa cheered. “Why did you want to meet me?”

And she also remembered..
OH.
“I want to volunteer to be one of the pupa on the mission.” Shilah said. Amethyst cocked her head, one of her furry batlike ears flopping comically. “Really? Your dad let you?” She said, and Shilah squirmed uncomfortably.
“Well, he didn’t
let me..” She said, looking down at the floor.
“Ohhh, so your gonna sneak! Like a spy! Super-sneaky!” Shilah let out a small laugh. “Well- try.” Amethyst bounced up and down. “Maybe we can both do it! Well, no.” She stopped. “Hm- daddy would ground me for a million thousand hundred and one years if he found out I snuck away, especially for a big Enfernae mission.” “Yeah, he-“ Shilah stopped talking suddenly, and Amethyst turned around. “ShilaaaAAAHHHH!! Huh? who’re you!”

A large, masked Enfernae stood at the entrance of the cave, holding an unconscious Shilah in one of her long, prehensile tails. The light blue dragon with red wings dropped the unconscious pupa and stepped over to Amethyst. She glanced up, and seeing that no one was alerted by Amethyst’s scream, looked back down to her.
“Your coming with me.”
“Why? Why is Shilah asleep- wait- you are you? I mean who are you? Did my daddy send you?” Amethyst said with almost a scolding tone.
“Not quite.” The masked figure said, and threw a bag over Amethyst’s head before knocking her out.

Amethyst sat up and looked around. “Whoah- dizzy..” she said, taking a misstep and knocking over a beaker of.. something red.
She was on a large, metal table in the middle of what looked like a laboratory- except the walls were rock.
“Wait a minute..” she said, glancing around. “Was I just.. kidnapped?” A big smile spread across her face. “I got kidnapped! This is so COOL! I’ve never gotten kidnapped before!” She looked around at the beakers and test pallets laying around her. “Hello?” She called.
No one.
Amethyst quickly lost interest. “Okay, this is boring. Blue dragon? Helloooo? Your prison is weird and I wanna go home now! It was fun getting kidnapped, but my daddy’s gonna flip out if he find out I’m gone.”
Still nothing.
“Your a pretty sucky captor!” The furry pupa yelled, and knocked over a couple more beakers- a few shattering on the floor. “Oopsy.” Amethyst said, looking over the table edge. “Oh no, I’m breaking all your shiny expensive stuff, you better come stop me!”
Again, nothing.
Amethyst sighed, annoyed.

[Part 5]
An orange dragon strode into Monarche Vixen’s main chambers, nodding formally to the guards posted outside her doors.
“Monarche Vixen?” He called, his voice wavering at the very slightest.
Vixen looked up from the application forms she was studying. “Mao!” She said cheerfully, a smile lighting up her tired expression. “I’m glad to see you! What is it?”
Mao took a deep breath. “I- I have something quite important to show you. It may change your opinion of me- but you have to know the truth.” Vixen slowly lowered her pen, her smile dropping. “Oh- yes, go on.”

[To quote]
Mao removed the top part of his helmet and showed her the inside which revealed a family crest that had once been the crest of an infamous traitor from an advisor that served the Monarche from several generations ago.

“I normally would not have shown anyone this, but since you have made me your advisor, I thought I should tell you. It is actually the reason I was reluctant to accept the position.

“Long before I was born, my old grandfather on my mother's side was accused for assassinating the Monarche at the time. I don't know what you know of that event, but what we have known of that time is different.”
[Mao] took a moment to catch his breath before continuing. “The Monarche at the time, [my] grandfather, and the other advisor, were traveling to the distant territories.
“They stopped to camp for the night. Grandfather was asked to check the area around the camp by the Monarche…
“He did so.
“He was a fair distance away when he saw smoke and fire coming from the camp. When he arrived to help, he saw the guards and Monarche dead on the ground.
The other advisor and his followers had killed them.
“They tried to kill grandfather, [who was] a witness, but he escaped. They returned here and made it out so he was [actually] the one that committed the crime. He was captured, [and] tried to prove them wrong, but failed.

”He was exiled along with his [mate]…”
[End.]

“I felt the need to show you that. You, being the new Monarche, deserve to know. Especially when you have a suspected traitor’s descent for an advisor.” Mao lowered his eyes.
Vixen studied the orange dragon for a moment, and picked up the helmet again, looking at the well-known crest.
“I know the story..” Vixen said, not looking up. “My mother told it to me, but she never told me that you were his grandson.” The red and purple-scaled dragon looked into his eyes. “But I trust your story. I know you and your family used to roam alone in the Enfernae deserts, so what your saying makes sense.” Vixen lay the helmet down.

“This crest should not mean anything bad anymore. I made you and Rowan my advisors because I trust you.” Vixen nodded, a smile playing on her face. Mao looked up at her, smiling also. “Thank you for hearing me out.” He said, and nodded to her, placing the helmet back on his head and exiting the room to fly away from the castle.

A red and white scaled dragon narrowed her eyes.
There.
Mao had just left the Tallcanyon House. The Enfernae leapt lightly off the shaded bluff she had been perched on and swooped in quickly towards Mao.
Her stealthy demeanor suddenly dropped and she widened her eyes. “Advisor! Advisor Mao!” She called out to him, flapping in midair to slow herself to a stop.
Mao turned suddenly, looking at the mysterious dragon that had appeared before him. The orange Enfernae slowed to a halt.
“How do you know my name?” He asked, suspicious.
The red dragon with white wing membranes and white scales running the length of her neck and tail hissed inwardly. She’d made a slight blunder there.

“Your the new advisor, are you not?” She said, trying to make the situation work for her. “Yes..” Mao said slowly. “But hardly anyone knows that, and most dragons don’t know what I look like..” “Sorry about that,” the Enfernae waved a talon. “I keep my ears open and my mouth shut. I kinda hear everywhere, you know?”
Trying not to let the noise from his armor distract him, Mao narrowed his eyes under the shadow of his helmet.
“Who are you anyway?” He said, his voice probably more aggressive than he intended. “Where did you come from?” The red and white dragon pushed her black satchel to the side. “Oh- my name is Onyx. I’ve actually come to speak with the new Monarche about her mission.” Mao decided to pretend he hadn’t noticed that she skipped the question of where she came from, and continued. “Your not a pupa- of course.” He said commandingly. He was the Monarche’s advisor, after all! “Why do you need to see the Monarche?”
Onyx spread her talons defensively. “I merely wanted to offer my services to her honor Monarche Vixen! I heard about her mission, and I wished to help.”
Mao looked at her carefully. She was a very sketchy-looking dragon.. but the decision was up to Vixen.
“Follow me.” He said reluctantly, flying back towards the Tallcanyon House.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t need anyone else.”

Onyx shook her head. “What?” She said, looking at Vixen, who was still bent over her paperwork. The Monarche grimaced slightly, as though she either had read over something revolting, or just wished that the visitor hadn’t pushed the issue. “But I thought you may need help! I came from the border of Enfernae to offer my services!”
Vixen gave her an apologetic look. “I’m sorry.” She said. “But my advisors and the Aerattl advisor, Zephyr, have been all the help I need. I’m sorry.”
Onyx grew silent. Then bowed to the Monarche, though an unseen glimmer in her eyes gave away the fact that she despised to do so. “Of course, your majesty.”
A guard suddenly broke the awkward moment that threatened to extend. “Your highness?” He said, nodding. “It’s about the mission.”
Vixen sighed, standing. “I’d better attend this. Come on Mao, I’ll probably need your help.”
They left Onyx glaring at the heavy dark oak door.

Onyx glanced towards the balcony she and Mao had flown in on. No guards were outside.
Stealthy, the mysterious Enfernae walked around until she was standing where Vixen had been. Her intelligent eyes took in the desk in one glance, and the only thing that seemed of value..
A black box.
With nimble claws, and a glance upwards, Onyx opened the carved case and looked inside. They were blue pills of some sort- but why would Vixen hide them? Onyx racked her brain.. yes! These were the underwater-breathing capsules Vixen had invented! She’d heard from the castle guards.
Quickly, she grabbed four and shut the box. Noticing an imprint the box had made in the dust on the desk, she put it exactly where it had been and put the capsules in a waterproof purse in her black satchel.

The mysterious red and white Enfernae flew away from the Tallcanyon House in the receding light of day.
