Lepidoptera found himself in an even larger cavern than before, and this one was even more open. The walls were covered with moss, algae, and a startling variety of mushrooms. He seemed to be standing on some sort of island, as he was surrounded by deep, cool water which looked almost indigo colored in the faint light that filled the cavern. He looked down and noticed that he was standing on fragments of small crystals, not sharp enough to draw blood but still painful to walk on. He turned around and gasped with shock when he saw that the island he was standing on was made entirely out of the crystal, with larger, sharp shards sticking out of the center. The tallest stretched all the way up to the roof of the cavern. Large mushrooms grew in crags in the rock. He approached cautiously, awestruck. He noticed then that the light in the cave seemed to be coming from the crystals themselves. That’s impossible he thought crystals don’t glow. He saw no other cracks or holes that could be letting light in, and he had no other explanations.Lepidoptera continued forward down the cave shaft, slick wet cave rock slowly growing rougher and…mushier. It took him a moment to process that he was walking on moss. He could make out a faint, ethereal light up ahead. He felt a pang of disappointment, light meant that he had reached the end of the cave. It was fun while it lasted. He thought. The narrow tunnel twisted suddenly, growing thinner until he thought he would no longer fit. He squeezed through the crack and dropped suddenly, falling several feet before splashing into freezing water. He screeched suddenly, splashing frantically as he tried to escape. Fortunately, he found purchase on dry land a few feet away. Shaking himself off, he sniffed suspiciously at the water, worried that it was corrupted. Oddly enough, it looked perfectly normal to him. At least, he didn’t feel diseased yet, so he turned his attention from the water to see where he had fallen.
